My ACER Aspire one netbook no longer shows the crystal cam as a device. Windows movie maker found it yesterday. Today it's GONE! CAN'T DOWNLOAD DRIVER FROM ACER. Their support website is blank! What can I do to get the thing to work again??

Try installing it from th acer website.

Don't forget to select the Operating system after selecting the computer model.
Go to Device Manager and open up Universal Serial Bus controllers and you should see USB Unknown Device. Right click on the USB Unknown Device and click on Uninstall. Shut down the Aspire One PC. Unplug the power adapter to the PC. Remove the battery at the back of the PC. Wait 1 minute.
Put back the battery. Plug the power adapter. Turn ON the Acer Aspire One pc. It should automatically detect the Acer Webcam and it will be listed in the Imaging Devices at the Device Manager. :) yay
Ok, it's on the left. Under file, there is capture video, and you hit capture from video device, then you click on the crystal eye cam if its like an aspire one.
Sounds like you have a driver problem, go to acer.com, download the drivers for your make and model for the cam drivers, make sure you select the right O/S.. exp Windows Vista, Windows XP.... and so forth..
Import video is only when you have recorded a video using the webcam in a particular format and not on the fly which is what you are trying to do.
Record what you want using another application and the webcam then import the video into movie maker to edit.
Alternatively, I think you need to to go the options screen and select the default audio device. Go to control pannels and see if its there and then select the webcam as the default device for MS applications.
