NEC vt440 projector is overheating

After about 30 minutes of use, the projector turns off. I assume it does so because it is overheating and needs to cool.

Is it possible to replace bad fans? Or, maybe a faulty temperature monitor?

Re: NEC vt440 projector is overheating

Try cleaning the filters, there is one on the front and one on the side. When dust builds up on these it can restrict the cooling of the projector

The projecor fell from the cieling and hit the ground

Yes you can if you have acess to a good soldering iron.mains power connectors need to be strongly bonded to earth, the circuit board and the case so make sure the joins are strong and secure. Obviously ensure the power is unplugged before commencing and be warned there can be a lot of easily broken (and expensive) glass panels in there- you can really mess things up permanently. sometimes the power inlet socket of the projector is right at the bottom of a few layers of optics, so don't be afraid to ask a professional to finish the job if it's beyond you.
Best of luck to you.
Don't forget to secure the projector to a strong timber beam in the roof!! :)

NEC MT1050 Lamp Error

Does the status light stay on red? If it does then the lamp timer has exspired and will not let the projector turn back on until it is reset, at which time you should replace the lamp. To reset the timer you need the remote control, with the unit plugged in in standby mode hold down the power off button for 30 to 45 seconds until the status light goes off.

try switching your input source and make sure you select S Video. Also you can try to feed a composite (RCA - Yellow Cable) into it and see if you get an image. Are you able to get an image/blank screen? Can you access the menu and see it?

As there were no indicator lights lit I focused on the AC. The projectors work as they should in another location and as such I am fairly certain the problem is associated with the AC power in the particular room. I haven't isolated the exact condition as yet.

NEC Projector VT440

I am a computer and electronics tech for a school district. I have worked on a number of different model projectors. The biggest problem that I see that can wear out a bulb VERY FAST is dust in the filters. When the filters get clogged with dust, the projector cannot move the proper amount of air to keep the lamp cool. These lamps run extremely hot and if not cooled properly can fail very fast. The first sign of a failing bulb is that the picture gets very dim. This is a good sign that the bulb needs to be replaced.

Another thing that can reduce the life of the bulb is leaving the projector on when it is not in use. If you are not using the projector for an extended period, shut it off. Leaving the projector in an A/V muted state does not shut down the bulb completely and can still wear on the lamp hours. These bulbs are rated for a certain number of lamp hours, so any time the projector is on, it is wearing away the hours of useable time. And at the cost of these bulbs, this can get expensive.

Most companies that sell bulbs sell the entire bulb assembly which is the bulb in an easily removeable housing that is usually made of a heat resistant plastic. One place that I use for replacement lamps is a site called my projector lamps This site will sell you the entire bulb assembly for a reasonable price. If you feel confident enough and have a bit of mechanical ability, you can usually get the bulb alone at a cheaper price and replace the one in your existing housing. Bulbs for some of these can be a bit tricky to replace in the plastic housing, so check out your assembly before going and ordering just the bulb. You may want to even try getting the bulb out of the housing first to make sure you can do it. That way if you damage the housing in any way you can then order the complete assembly.
