i can not seem to get any picture when i hoor up the tv to a vcr the ound works fine. i am using a cable with three leeds yellow white and red

You need to check the input selection on your tv on screen menu. Some AV in settings will pick up part of a signal but not all. Make sure you try all input selections.
To prove that the problem is not in the AV lead.....try connecting it on another small tv with a known working DVD/TV combination.
