A wireless local area network, which is the linking of two or more computers without using wires. you cant use just one computer...the laptop needs a signal from another computer.

How do I connect my Roku to the Home Network?

Hi friend...

Connecting to your home network and the internet during setup, During Guided Setup, you will be asked to do the following:

1. Choose Wired or Wireless.

Note: The Wired option will not appear on Roku devices without an Ethernet port.

2. If you select Wired, your Roku device will connect to your home network and the internet. If you select Wireless, proceed to the next step.
3. Choose your wireless network from the list of available networks. If you do not see your home network, select scan again to see all networks.
4. Enter the password you use to access your wireless network. If you want to see the password as you type, choose Show password. This can help prevent entering the wrong password.
5. Remember, passwords are case-sensitive. Use the shift button shift key on the on-screen keyboard to enter a capital letter.
6. Once you have entered your password and selected Connect, your Roku streaming device will connect to your home network and the internet.
7. After your Roku device makes a successful connection, the latest available software for the device will be downloaded and installed, and your Roku device will restart.

If you cannot make a connection, learn what to do if your Roku device cannot access your home network or the internet.

Why does my laptop not connect to wireless abroad

If your laptop connects to wireless networks at home without any problems then there shouldn't be any issue with connecting to other networks when away from home.

In order to connect to a different network you would need to know both the network name (SSID) and the wireless access key (WEP or WPA) unless you are connecting to an 'Open' network.

With many 'Open' networks you would still normally have to open your web browser and visit the network provider website - this should happen automatically when you try to go to your home page. On the network provider page you may have to accept their terms & conditions or you may discover that the network is not free!

I just got my Asus Eee PC 1000H and the first thing I tried to do was to connect to the wireless network in my house but I don't have a wireless network icon. The wireless and bluetooth are both turned on....

Hi,
I am assuming this has windows xp on it. Go to start settings/control panel then double click wireless network setup. Go through the wizard and go from there. If you need further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,
lee

Aspire 6930 wireless button not working

Without any wireless networks available, using your computer wirelessly is most pointless. If you want to set up a wireless access point in your home you need a wireless router, connected to Internet.

I have a medion computor which is unable to connect to my wireless broadband. The wireless network is recognised, but it doesn't connect. i also have a laptop, but this connects to the wireless broadband....

first off it would be helpful to know some more details, do you know the answers to these questions? also i assume you are connecting to a wifi router in your home network.
1) is there a password for the wireless network you must configure? 2) what operating system are you using? 3) if the OS is windows, do you know if you are using the wireless network settings panel that is part of windows, or does it have another brand name when you click on the wireless or network icon?
some possible causes i can think of are:
1) settings got reset and it cant connect without a password or confirmation to join an unsecured network 2) a new network popped up near the one computer that doesnt work and is being preferred due to signal strength although it is not a valid choice for you to get online 3) in the case of windows, software provided by the wireless hardware manufacturer is fighting with the windows wireless configuration 4) the wifi card in the computer is broken

Network Encryption

Wireless encryption is first and foremost to keep people from accessing your network without your permission. Due to the strength of wireless routers now and days, its like you just turned on a large flood light in home that says "steal my internet connection!"

Yes, it does provide encryption in the transmissions between your computer and the router, but it will not enhance how any web page works or protect your data any better in your computer.

Best suggestion I can make for you is to not only have a wireless password on your router, but to have one one your computer as well. Do not make both passwords match, and do not make them simple or easily guessed. For example, you may want to include numbers and/or combinations of upper and lower case letters (i.e.: FblackDOG78). Furthermore, you want to avoid using common words in your passwords.

Cannot connect my wifi laptop to the wireless router

If you use your original Win XP disks, there's a chance you now have XP SP1 (Service Pack 1). Make sure you've made all the necessary Windows Updates as working with WiFi networks was enhanced with XP SP2. Then you can try to find your wireless network and connect to it. If you had a secured network you'll need your previous network key (similar to a password, but without a username, the wireless key is needed to exchange data with the router) If you can't remember the settings on your Linksys you can reset it to factory settings with inserting something into the reset hole to press the hidden buton and holding it for several seconds until lights on the front flash. Then you HAVE to run the initial install procedure (find your CD and Quick Start sheet) because your router will be open and unsecured.
