Maytag Performa PAV2300AWW Wahing Machine

The agitator in this washing machine is rather loose and there doesn't seem to be any screws or fasteners to tighten. Do I need to replace it?
Tks, Johnny

I have a Maytag Performa PAV2300AWW with the same problem. The top half of the agitator keeps popping up and just sort of wobbling instead of agitating. I can see there are vertical slots in the bottom half that accept some plastic cross-members up in the tube of the top half, and if you rotate the top half it seats down an inch or so onto the bottom half and then works fine, but it won't stay down and keeps popping back up.

I've taken the top part of the agitator off (it just comes right off if you pull up on it) and can see no possible place for any sort of fastener to hold the two parts together. I can see a bolt attaching the bottom half of the agitator down to the washer proper if I look down inside its tube with a flashlight, but can see no way that the two parts are attached to each other. There's just a slightly tight seal of the two tubes as you slide the agitator top on, then you have to rotate it until in seats in the slots.

MY MAYTAG WAS SPINNING BUT SLOWILY. NOW IT WON'T SPIN AT ALL. THE LID SWITH IS GOOD, WHAT ELSE COULD BE PROBLEM?

it could be your agitator troubleshoot the following to isolate the problem: Unplug the washing machine, and turn off the water supply to the machine. If necessary, remove the water hoses from the back of the washing machine because they may be in the way of the access panel. 2 Check that the agitator is seated correctly by opening the lid of the washing machine. If it's loose, pop off the top of the agitator--if there is one--and tighten the bolt that holds the agitator in place. Or, in some models, simply pull straight up and then reseat the agitator. 3 Remove the access panel located in the back of the washing machine by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. This allows access to the drive motor. 4 Press on the drive belt that works the agitator. If the belt moves more than 3/4 inch, tighten the belt to fix the spinner problem. If the belt is worn or cracked, replace the belt. 5 Replace the drive motor, if tightening or replacing the drive belt doesn't fix the agitator. Purchase a new drive motor at a wholesale retailer. Disconnect wiring, remove screws holding motor in place and insert new motor. Screw into place, and connect wiring. 6 Check for any black substance leaking under the washing machine. This might indicate a clutch problem, if the washing machine spinner is not working. Contact a professional repairman to replace the clutch.

The agitator seems loose on my Maytag top loading machine.. model LAT9206BAE it started this after one of my kids overloaded the machine.. works fine but makes a loud clanging noise while washing.. almost...

Use a 1/4 inch nut driver to tighten the set screw to the agitator shaft. It is about 3 inches up from the bottom of the agitator on the side of the agitator.

Maytag PAV2300AWW Washer makes grinding sound when agitating

Sounds like it is the bearing on the water pump. Take off back plate and replace and remove 3 screws and two hoses (the one hose is a waste line so make sure you have a bucket to empty our waste water) after removing these remove belt on bottom of pump.

Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

How do you know if your belt is not functioning properly? During the wash and spin cycles the machine makes an outrageous noise. The washing machine is 7 years old, a Maytag Performa, Top Loader, Model #...

  • tilt the machine over and look at the bottom. the belt is there.
  • it will feel loose but that is normal. it is spring tensioned.
  • the noise is probably coming from the water pump, when they are bad they make a loud noise.
  •  turn the pulley around a couple times to see where the noise is coming from.

Does not spin

Possible your outlet filter is blocked. This requires cleaning depending on your usage. Clean this out and refit. Good luck. Plug off the wall first.
