2007 harley 883 sporster

I'm a new harley owner and I took out the battery for the winter and I forgot what goes where when I looked at it the other day. I'm to lazy to look at the owners manual so any help would be appreciated.

Re: 2007 harley 883 sporster

There is no difficulty. The marked (-) or black must be connected to the black wire leading straight to chassis and the other marked (+) or red to the wire usually red connecting to the circuit through a safe about 20 A or so.
Good Luck and Happy New Year.

Make sure your kill switch is off, check battery voltage across terminals, should be 12.6 volts. Check for loose connections at battery, starter and at frame ground.

solid mounted motor should ground to motor or frame did you maybe for get the smaller wire to positive term it goes to the main fuse you didnt say whether you had lights or not but theres too many possibilities if you got a book i'm geussing no but they'll have the complete wireing diagrams my advice get a mechanic down there it'll be reasonable cause if he knows his stuff it'll be pretty quick and do keep in mind paintjobs have bred lots of basket cases

Taking off the speedo?

The older Harley speedos are driven by a cable and can easily be replaced by any type of cable driven speedo. I assume your Sporster has the tank mounted dash (my 72 is this way), it's fairly simple too unbolt the dash and remove the speedo. If you're wanting to replace yours with a newer (electronic pick-up) that could be quite a project. Hope this helps

My transmission/clutch

The tranny on these are bullet proof. So, this is most likely going to be the clutch. I say most likely, because I thought my clutch had gone out here recently on my Softtail, but when I got the clutch assembly off, it turned out to be the front drive belt pulley. They're aluminum, and spun the splines out., so keep this in mind if the clutch is good. Since this is an 883 that makes it easier to inspect the clutch. You'll need to pull the primary cover, check the clutch cable mechanism inside the cover, and check the friction plates on the clutch. You should be able to see if the frictions have any pad left, and the cable mechanism will be easy to tell if there's anything wrong with it. Use new primary fluid, and get a new primary gasket, do not reuse the old, especially the gasket. Although it may look good, even the smallest separation in the gasket will cause a leak. Good luck, and let me know how it turns out.

i would check the obvious fuses and such. however, if your bike has the self reset circuit breakers, you might have one to go bad. they work on the bi-metal principle where current flows through a calibrated piece of spring steel and when it heats up, it deforms and opens a set of contacts and when it cools off it returns to shape and closes the contacts. these are available at auto parts stores at a faction of the cost from hd.

Harley Davidson not starting

Disconnect the battery positive cable and yank straight up on it. If it seperates in two see a dealer. This was a recall so it will be repaired for free - no time limit, you don't have to be the original owner. If not, check the wire from the starter solenoid to the ignition switch. Also check the heavy ground cable from the battery to the frame, and the 10mm battery connections.

1200 Sportstart won't start, just clicks.

Sounds like something is hanging or froze up or the starter/solenoid contacts need to be cleaned or the battery cable connections at the frame ground and starter are either loose or corroded and need to be cleaned or maybe a wiring harness plug has corroded over the winter and needs to be cleaned.
