Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

1 Answer

My Dell600 won't power on with or without A/C adapter

The original adapter (which came w/computer)blinks green but shuts off when plugged to computer. I bought a new adapter & battery. The new adapter reads green when plugged into wall but shuts off when attached to computer. The new battery also does not power up the computer. Prior to this have had no problems. (computer bought used 4 mos ago) Since I'm not computer savy I don't know if I was supposed to charge anything prior to trying to start-up?

Thanks for your assistance

Re: My Dell600 won't power on with or without A/C...

If the unit was a Brand New purchased, and still 4 months old, its better to avail the "warranty" of the unit, to save you from any trouble. But if it is a second hand without any warranty, you can eithertake this risky step or submit it to a certified service center.
The risky step is to open your laptop, and check the "charger terminal" for loose contact, or solder detached terminals.

Power light flashing amber

Follow the steps given below. (Please be careful when handling computer electrical components like batteries and AC Adapters)
  • Remove the battery and hold down the power button for few seconds (to drain all remaining power)
  • Power up the computer without the battery with the A/C adapter plugged in.
  • Wait for few seconds and plug the battery back in
After a few tries the computer should start charging normally. The amber battery stops blinking and turn green when fully charged.

No power battery flashes 4 orange

If it is orange or is blinking orange, the battery charge is low or expended. Remove the battery and re-install it. Plug in the AC adapter and connect it to an outlet. Turn on the computer.

When the battery status light blinks green and orange, the battery temperature is too hot for charging. Shut down the laptop, detach the AC adapter, and allow the laptop and battery to return to room temperature before attempting to charge the battery.

If the battery status light blinks orange rapidly, the battery itself may be defective.

No a/c power light on laptop

Well the first thing you should check is the amount of power output to the power supply. for example the computer needs 12V but the AC Adapter only gives 9V.
If that's not it then the actual green light is not receiving that information from the motherboard. that's not an issue if the battery get's filled up and the laptop works normally . If you notice that the laptop tends to shut down quickly when it's not plugged in then the battery is worn out. These things happen since the a laptop battery becomes very inefficient after 2-3 years.
One more thing - try to rotate the input end of the ac adapter cable. maybe it's not making good contact inside the laptop.
Hope this helps.

Sir i have acer 4720Z series laptop. when I plug in the power adapter it show adapter light green. when adapter pin connect the laptop then light show blink and laptop not charging.

Your laptop battery seems to be broken.
To be a 100% sure, can the computer run on only battery?
Try to have the computer plugged in to the charger for a couple of hours without starting it.

I have ac adapter plugged into the wall, and into the computer, the charge pack light is green, the battery is in the computer and the computer won't turn on at all

You probably have a bad or loose DC jack on the laptop:

Problem symptoms:

  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).

Sir, i have bought a acer laptop model aspire 5920 but when i was working on it suddenly it shut down and till now i cannot made it power on can you tell me the problem

Remove the battery and the power adapter, wait 5 minutes, plug in the power adapter and try turning it on, if it doesn't turn on, remove the power adapter, plug in the battery and try starting up again, if it still doesn't work plug in the power adapter, try starting up.

Is the power adapter working? does it have a green led on it that shows that its powered?

Battery indicator?

Hi there.
Sounds like the battery could be faulty.
The diagnostic procedures from the Dell User Guide are as follows:

Total Power Failure When Using a Battery
If an AC adapter is not connected to your computer, the computer's power source
is a battery. If the battery indicator flashes amber or is a steady amber, the
battery needs to be charged. If the battery is flashing green and amber, the
battery may be defective. To troubleshoot this problem, use the following
1. Turn off the computer and peripherals, and disconnect them from AC power.
2. Reseat each installed battery by removing it and then replacing it.
3. Turn on the computer. Does the green power indicator light up?
Allow one minute for the computer to initialize its components before checking
for signs of power.
Yes. Continue to step 4.
No. Use the AC adapter to connect your computer to AC power. If the computer
operates normally when using AC power, go to step 7. If the computer does not
boot when using the AC adapter, see the previous subsection, "Total Power

condition may affect the life span of the battery. Continue to step 8.
No. The problem is resolved.
8. Disconnect the computer from AC power. Is the the battery indicator still
flashing amber?

the charge gauge of the battery flashing?
