Ok, I've looked everywhere to try and find out how to fix this issue, but everything just answers the problem by stating it again.
I have a 5th generation ipod (video), and something happened to it a few days ago. It died (ran out of power) like it normally would, but then I clicked on it. That "sad ipod" icon came up, and now when I plug it into my computer, it won't show up on itunes and my computer fails to even notice that it's plugged in.
I know for a fact that there is nothing wrong with the cable, because I plugged in my friend's ipod touch and it worked out just fine. My computer recognized it, and so did itunes.
I WOULD reboot my ipod, but it won't show up in itunes. If I put my ipod in disk mode then plug it into my computer, I do get something saying that it "found new hardware", yet I still can't find it in the files.
So here are the main issues:
- Itunes won't recognize it
- The computer won't recognize it
- I can't turn it on
- Every guide I've looked at doesn't help the least bit
Please don't tell me any of this:
- Try rebooting it using itunes. < Itunes won't recognize it, therefore, this is impossible for me >
- There might be something wrong with the cable < Why does the other ipod work with that same cable then? >
I would love it if someone could at least tell me if there's a way to reboot it not using itunes, or if someone could tell me how to get the computer to recognize it again. Keep in mind that I can't turn on my ipod either, since that stupid icon comes up instead, then it just shuts down and repeats itself if I try and turn it on again.

My ipod classic wont show up in itunes. Its weird cause it does show up in my dekstop, and when I plugged it in in my sisters computer it worked. So its not a problem with my ipod or my USB. My itunes is the newst version and I already reinstalled it. I really dont know what to do, so frustrating!
