Re: kaput?

Just for the heck of it, try running Maxtor diagnostic tool.
If not solving the problem, at least you'll learn more about hard drives.

I connect my apello m300 to laptop.but show this error in that time."The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" why show this messege

Compare the "corrupted message" to a child with a pen writing all over the "table of contents" of a book. Some of the entries in that table of contents have become unreadable.

So, the "logical-integrity" of the disk-drive has been compromised, either by a software error (Windows writing files to the wrong place on the disk-drive) or by a hardware (Windows tried to write files to the correct place, but that part of the disk-drive cannot reliably be accurately recorded).

My external wd elements not reading and the light in the hardisk is on but not blinking

Could have picked up a virus from your friends computer, or the device is just on the fritz. It also could have been corrupted. When removing an external hard drive you should always go to the bottom right click on the little green arrow icon and select "safely remove <your device>" otherwise you risk corrupting the files on it. Plug in the hard drive to your computer. Right click on Computer/My Computer and select Manage. Click on Disk Management on the left side. If your device shows up then the drive most likely has corrupted files or the file table. Right click on your device and initialize it if it isn't and then format the device and it will work again. You will lose all your data in the process. You can download Recurva from to try and recover your files if you like. If the device doesn't show at all in disk management then I'd say its toast.

My ministation was doing the same, beeping and flashing green light after a light drop on the floor. Soo... I took my ministation usb drive out of the plastic enclosure and smacked it on the table a few times. Plugged it in and it spun back up!! Now my computer recognizes it and everythings working smooth! I assume something with the drive became jammed and the couple smacks loosened the drive head.. Anyway, if all else fails... beat it!

Unfortunately I dropped my Trekstor 500GB hard drive on the floor and now it registers as a removable disk with message "please insert disk into removable disk". My computer is a Windows vista. Can the...

An external unit has two main parts:
* the disk-drive
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter

In your case, the adapter seems to be working OK.

But, when Windows tries to read the 'table-of-contents' from the disk-drive, it cannot,
and so you get the 'please insert' message.

You might want to disassemble the unit, and remove the disk-drive,
and connect it as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer,
just to bypass the adapter, to see if the disk itself can be read.

So, about 0.1% of the blocks on the disk-drive are 'unreadable'.
This means that the other 99.9% of the disk-drive _could_ be readable,
namely all your files.

Search online for 'DATA RECOVERY' software -- it reads through the blocks on the disk-drive,
block-by-block, trying to 'stitch' blocks back together (like assembling a jigsaw puzzle) to
reconstruct the (unreadable) table-of-contents, and thus make it possible to copy the files
from that drive onto the 'C:' drive of the desktop computer.

Can't find external HD anymore

Even a short drop like that can produce a deadly blow to a disc type hard drive. Here is their website which has a diagnostics tool for the hard drive available. Good luck, hope you dont have a paper weight on your hands.

My external hard drive is unreadable

Does you drive make any sounds like these? If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it. If not - try to remove the drive from USB casing and connect it directly to your PC or put into another USB enclosure. This should help if the problem is with the enclosure itself and not with the drive.
