One radio doesn't respond at all

Battery works in the radio in question because I tried it in other radio. When I turn it on it does't respond at all. At one time when I was trying to figure out the problem, I was taking the battery out and the radio momentarily tried to work but since then I get no response at all. Thanks for any help.

Re: one radio doesn't respond at all

There are three possibilities other than an actual failure. Power save or CTCSS.

First let's eliminate absolute power failure. Turn on both devices and set them to the same channel. Now press the talk button on the problem unit. Do you hear yourself talking in the good unit? If so we know the power system is O.K. if not we'll investigate that further. If you cannot hear the other unit:

I suspect the battery contacts. In that unit you can use Alkaline "AA" batteries instead of the included battery. Try this, becuase I'm suspicious the contacts may not be making connection in the pack. The slightly different shape of the alkilines will make it easy for you to see the contacts...and confirm that the batteries are actually connected.

If its not that post back ... and I'll explain the procedure for troubleshooting CTCSS/DTCSS . CTCSS ...both are squelching systems which keep the receiver from hissing at you when no one is transmitting.

Happy New year.

Next ... come CTCSS.

Re: one radio doesn't respond at all

That radio has two features that may be the problem. The first is battery save mode. The second is a "CTCSS" quieting system (which this model has). which keeps the radio from hissing when another radio isn't sending you a signal. We all know that sound. Old T.V.s made the sound when you were tuned to a channel when the transmitter was off the air.
Test procedure:
1.) Answers if the power supply parts of the radio working

Turn on the "good radio" volume midway. Push transmit button button on bad radio and speak. Do you hear yourself speak in good radio?

Email me the answer and I'll provide step 2

Why is my Kenwood TK 3400 not responding

Check your battery. Try trading batteries with a known good unit to see if this solves the problem. If not, post back with more information.

1 of my sx700 is not responding

I would suggest taking the radios back to a very basic programming with the interference eliminator set to zero or off, and any special features shut off. This would enclude Qt filter, call tones, iVox/Vox, vibra call, keypad tones, roger beep, enhanced scan, weather, etc. Set both radios to the same frequency and see if they work. If not, try switching the rechargeable battery from one radio to the other. Does the problem move to the other radio? If so, you need a battery. If neither of these helps, you likely need to replace the radio.

My MH230R goes silent and then doesn't come on until I key the lime again

You could have a programming error, or a low/defective battery. Check your battery first. Trade batteries with a known good unit and see if the problem continues. If you still have the problem, it is a radio problem.

Next try setting the radio back to a basic operation by turning off any special features such as Qt filter and Call Tones. These two items when not used properly, or mix-n-matched between radios can cause issues similar to what you are experiencing.

Motorola xu 2100 will not turn off

You possibly have a bad volume on/off potentiometer, or you have a dead or no battery in the unit, or a bad battery connection. Check your radio with a known good battery, if this doesn't solve the problem, you radio likely needs repair. The volume potentiometer is a common failure part and would be replaced during a flat rate repair (currently around $69).

We purchasedn 3 bpr 40 and we justed ordered another, when we turn the bpr on to the channel of the 3 others that are in use, we just get a low continual tone, i tried a radio check on channel 1 with no...

Your new radio is likely not programmed the same as the others. A continual tone indicates a channel which is not programmed (doesn't have a frequency installed).

The other thing which can cause a tone, is a low or uncharged battery. You might try switching one of the known good batteries to the new radio to see if it will work. If you still have the same continual tone with a known good battery installed, you have a programming issue. If the battery swap solves the problem, then you need to investigate why your battery isn't charged up.

Either way, contact the dealer where you purchased the BPR40, they should provide programming free, or a warranty replacement battery for free. If you ordered online or by mail, and you just received the radio within the week, you should request they provide return shipping for you.

Best regards.

Trouble with one of my T5720 devices...

Likely it is a low battery issue. Either the rechargeable battery needs to be replaced or the charger isn't working properly. Try replacing the battery with 4 AAs (IIRC) and see if that works.

We have several Motorola radios, two of which came with the rechargeable batteries. In the past year, neither of the rechargeable radios would recharge. The batteries won't make good contact with the charger even when not in the radio. Now one works with AAs but the other lost its settings and we haven't been able to reset to contact the other radios.

Cindy Wells
(we looked into replacing the batteries. Motorola lists chargers and batteries for our older radios but not the two that came with their own chargers. The local battery store wanted ~$40 dollars to try and rebuild the units. Since the chargers are not making good contact, we decided to go with the regular batteries.)
