One radio doesn't respond at all

Battery works in the radio in question because I tried it in other radio. When I turn it on it does't respond at all. At one time when I was trying to figure out the problem, I was taking the battery out and the radio momentarily tried to work but since then I get no response at all. Thanks for any help.

Yeah-Happy newyear to you! Well it doesn't seem to be the batteries. I put good ones in but didn't work- checked them in good radio and they worked. So I guess the next step maybe will help.

    Thanks for your help.

I don,t know if this makes a difference but I have 22 chanels on the radio - not 14. I originally said in my first plea that it was a GXT600 but never specified the channels. Hope this may clear things up and am sorry if it inconveinanced anyone.

    Thanks for your help.

There are three possibilities other than an actual failure. Power save or CTCSS.

First let's eliminate absolute power failure. Turn on both devices and set them to the same channel. Now press the talk button on the problem unit. Do you hear yourself talking in the good unit? If so we know the power system is O.K. if not we'll investigate that further. If you cannot hear the other unit:

I suspect the battery contacts. In that unit you can use Alkaline "AA" batteries instead of the included battery. Try this, becuase I'm suspicious the contacts may not be making connection in the pack. The slightly different shape of the alkilines will make it easy for you to see the contacts...and confirm that the batteries are actually connected.

If its not that post back ... and I'll explain the procedure for troubleshooting CTCSS/DTCSS . CTCSS ...both are squelching systems which keep the receiver from hissing at you when no one is transmitting.

Happy New year.

Next ... come CTCSS.

    Hello again,

Could you hear your voice in the good one under procedure 1?

That radio has two features that may be the problem. The first is battery save mode. The second is a "CTCSS" quieting system (which this model has). which keeps the radio from hissing when another radio isn't sending you a signal. We all know that sound. Old T.V.s made the sound when you were tuned to a channel when the transmitter was off the air.
Test procedure:
1.) Answers if the power supply parts of the radio working

Turn on the "good radio" volume midway. Push transmit button button on bad radio and speak. Do you hear yourself speak in good radio?

Email me the answer and I'll provide step 2

Short list: Have you

The radio buttons on 09 altima are not responding when u try to change to a new radio station and to cd or radio plus when u put the cd in u can't skip to the next song

First impression is you radio is toast. It maybe some component gone bad on a circuit panel inside the radio. Before you consign it to the deep try "rebooting" it. Most electronically controlled radios have some king of logic and memory boards in them treat your radio like your computer when it starts misbehaving. To reboot the radio disconnect the battery (remove the black/negative lead first then the positive/red lead from the battery), put the key in the ignition and try to start the car (it won't of course but this is to discharge any holding capacitors) and turn on the radio ...again to discharge any holding capacitors. Turn everything off and let it sit overnight if you can. Reconnect the battery. The radio should have lost all saved information (time, stations, EQ settings etc) and may now be responsive to button inputs. If this doesn't work then I'd say the radio is a goner.

What is wrong when you turn the key to start and the radio and all the instruments turn on but the starter doesn't click and the engine doesn't turn on even after trying to jump start it

Dead battery

Dangerous practice to try & jump a dead battery

The battery cables could be loose at either end or corroded internally

Most likely the battery is worn out, if original to car
since it was new, or the starter solenoid is worn

You do not want to jump any vehicle made after the
year 2000 or your asking for possible problems with
todays electronics.

You need a good battery that has been tested & fully
charged, then only jump with a jump pack, not another car

Hi, I had a start problem with my celica. tried to turn the car over and a constant clicking sound was made, however all lights were on and the radio was working.. thought possible starter problem,...

The problem is that your battery is extremely low. The repeated clicking sound is your starter relay trying to engage, then releasing again when the starter takes the remaining voltage available to try to turn. When the relay disengages, the starter can no longer take any voltage at all, so the relay again engages and the process starts over. This results in "CLICK, CLICK, CLICK, CLICK...." There simply is not enough power available to operate both the relay and the starter.

Your alarm system doesn't have enough voltage to function properly. It "thinks" that someone is trying to steal your car or is messing with your battery cables. It doesn't know the difference between low voltage from a dead battery and low voltage from somebody disconnecting wires. It is simply responding to the low voltage condition as it is designed to do. Fix the voltage problem and you will fix your security system. No need to reset anything.

Jump-start the car or replace the battery and get your charging system checked to make sure everything is functioning properly. It is possible that the battery is good but you have a bad alternator and the battery is low because it is not being charged.

03 vibe cd player will not respond

I blew a fuse controlling the radio, charging system, turn signals, heater fan, ,etc..this ran down my battery.

When I replaced the fuse, the CD player would not respond, but the radio worked.

I disconnected the battery for over 30 seconds, hooked it back up, and the time reset on the radio to 12:00 and the CD player works again.
