Question about Televison & Video
On a variety of channels, whether watching movies or documentaries, we find that it is hard to hear the dialogue or narration when there is music in the background. The "background" music seems to dominate and make the person speaking very hard to understand. We have tried switching the "L" and "R" audio cables, even connecting "L" output from our cable box to "R" input on the TV. We have tried different sets of input connections available on the back of the TV. Nothing has helped. I have explored the JVC menus in Setup, but there doesn't seem to be anything to do. Any help would be appreciated.
Are the settings on your tv set to mono by any chance? This sounds like the speaker output is not properly configured. Is this issue only persistent while watching cable? Have you had any issues with DVDs, blu-rays or Netflix? If so you can try doing a hard reset, unplug the tv from the socket and leave it unplugged for 15mins.

SOURCE: half screen activated only
When only a half screen is produced, it is usually a upper or lower buffer board, if the top half is blank then it is the upper buffer, and of course if it's the bottom half then it's the bottom buffer board

there should be on the tv out a red and white rca output or a coaxial, your yamaha my be too old to deal with the outputs on the tv. at the jvc website you can download the manual for this tv.
