Question about Frigidaire FWS445RF
The agitator noise on my washer just started getting louder. It's kind of like a knocking noise. The agitator is working properly. Is the motor going bad?
I'm not sure...you've given me two different areas of concern. The first is the mechanical noise and then the nonfunctionality of the spin. That could be a pair of problems. Mechanical noise could be from any number of places. The fact that neither the spin nor the dispenser function occur could be the timer. If this is a mechanical timer (one you turn to get the unit to start), it probably is bad. I'd go there first. Once you get your functions back, then, find out where the mechanical noise is coming from. If the timer is expensive versus a service call...you might want to pay the service call, get your proper diagnosis and go on from there.

The first thing I would check is whether the agitator is cracked. Often, there is a knob/nut you can remove to take the agitator out. If not that...you have a loose assembly or something in the transmission. Check the easy things first. Chances are that if you try to 'rock' the agitator yourself...it will show you that it is damaged.
