Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
I recently installed my new router to my Main Computer, but the device could not connect to the Internet. The cable modem and the router connections appear to be solid, so I'm at a loss as to what to do. I run with Verizon DSL and my ISP is AOL, 9.0. If I have to something like change IP addresses either on the Cable Modem or the Router would you please explain in detail how to do that. Thank you for your help.
I've run into this dozens of times. With DSL, keep in mind the software
on the PC is what "dials out" to the ISP with your name / password, and
you MUST set the name and password in the router. Otherwise, ONLY the
computer that has the software installed (verizon, etc) will be able to
If you're using a cable connection, you don't have to do this, however, most newer Linksys routers come with a 'setup' disk, which MUST be used regardless of connection type.

First thing reboot your router by pulling the power plug out for 30 sec. You should have some tv in your programs tray next to the time on the toolbar. In your address bar type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 if the sign up window comes up you are comunicating with the router. Type www.yahoo.com in the address bar. this will tell you if your geting on the net. Property out your internet conection. check your ip and subnet they should look like this; 192.168.1.*** 255.255.255.0 if they are shortend at all your ip address is wrong... most of the time just rebooting your router fixes the problem.
