Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

Cannot connect to the Internet . . .

I recently installed my new router to my Main Computer, but the device could not connect to the Internet. The cable modem and the router connections appear to be solid, so I'm at a loss as to what to do. I run with Verizon DSL and my ISP is AOL, 9.0. If I have to something like change IP addresses either on the Cable Modem or the Router would you please explain in detail how to do that. Thank you for your help.

I am having a similar problem. I just bought a new laptop and although it connects to the wireless signal and says excellent, it will not bring up an internet window. It actually has worked a couple of times but now it will not work no matter how many times I reset everything. Other laptops in the house work, but they sometimes go out intermittently also. Usually resetting the connection fixes it, but not for this laptop - what is going on? Someone please help.

I've had the lynksys g router for a while now, and it always worked fine. I moved recently, however, and hooked everything back up exactly the way I had it, and now it won't work at all! I hooked everything up and my main computer signals that internet is connected, but when I tried to access the internet I just get error messages. What's up?

I've run into this dozens of times. With DSL, keep in mind the softwareCannot connect to the Internet . . . - 1.gif on the PC is what "dials out" to the ISP with your name / password, and you MUST set the name and password in the router. Otherwise, ONLY the computer that has the software installed (verizon, etc) will be able to connect.

If you're using a cable connection, you don't have to do this, however, most newer Linksys routers come with a 'setup' disk, which MUST be used regardless of connection type.

First thing reboot your router by pulling the power plug out for 30 sec. You should have some tv in your programs tray next to the time on the toolbar. In your address bar type or if the sign up window comes up you are comunicating with the router. Type in the address bar. this will tell you if your geting on the net. Property out your internet conection. check your ip and subnet they should look like this; 192.168.1.*** if they are shortend at all your ip address is wrong... most of the time just rebooting your router fixes the problem.

Belkin router can't connect to internet

This is part solution, part clarification request: When you say that you installed the setup software on your laptop, setup software for which: the modem, or the belkin router? Also what type of internet service do you have - Cable? DSL? If you are not sure, list your ISP. What operating systems do you have on your laptop and your main computer?

You say that you connected the modem to your main computer - I am assuming that you mean that you connected your modem with a network or ethernet cable (the one with a connector that looks similar to but larger than a telephone's connector) to your computer's ethernet card, or NIC, port. Is anything connected by ethernet cable to the Belkin router? If you have not connected the modem directly to the router, it will not connect to the internet, and anything connecting to the Belkin router will not be able to access the internet as well.

Try this: disconnected the power from your modem, then disconnect power from your router, and disconnect any ethernet cables from computer & modem, or computer and router. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the Belkin Router. (Ensure that you have plugged in the ethernet cable on the router into a port that is either set aside from others, or indicates "Internet", WAN, or something similar - it should be marked either with a different color, labled, or both). Now power on your modem. Wait until you see a steady "ready" light, green ethernet light, or the light usually lit for that model indicating it has completed its bootup tests and the internet connection is ready.
Next, ensure the ethernet cable is connected from the modem to correct WAN or "internet" port on the Belkin Router, then power up the router. Once the router boots up completely, plug in a cable from your computer's (main computer) NIC or ethernet card or port, to a port on the Belkin Router (there should be more than one port available, generally numbered "1, 2, 3" and so on - in a group, seperate from the WAN or internet port). Once you are sure you have the cable plugged into one of the correct ports, and if you have windows, restart your main computer.

Now on your main computer, check to see if you have an internet connection. If you do, you can now resume running the router's software setup on your laptop, which sounds as though it was walking you thru the setup process to connect you via wireless connection to the internet. Report back if you have any success, or if you have any further problems, and best of luck! Hope that info helps

When the router is connected = no service - when I bypass it I have internet service. How can I perform updates on the router when I connect it I don't have internet service. Connie Tolton

This is a problem with a lot of cable internet providers. The modem binds to the first device it connects to, which would be the computer that you are using. You will have to setup mac cloning in the new router for it to work. Connect everything through the router. On the computer click start then run. Type cmd and press enter. This will open a new window. In this type ipconfig /all. This will list all network devices in your computer. Find the one that says Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection. Find the line that says physical adapter. Write down the address it has listed. It will be something like this 00-26-2D-55-8E-81. It may have this : instead of the dashes. You can then close this window and open internet explorer. type the following addres this will connect you to the router. The default user name and password is admin. You should now be at the main router screen. In the upper middle of that screen you should see mad address clone. Click here then type in the address you wrote down earlier. Save settings. Then close Internet Explorer. After about 3 minutes for the router to reset everything should work.

Can connect to router, but not to internet

Is the main computer connected to the router or to the internet directly? If it is a cable modem for the internet, make sure you turn that off, as well as the router, and connect the cable modem to WAN on the router and put the modem on first, then the router. Connect the computers, xbox, etc to the router

Can't connect

First if your computer has an ethernet port attempt to connect through the router to the internet with a wire. If that works the next question is did you buy this device new or used? If used we can work to assure we know the configuration of the device. Second what is the manufacturer and model of your computer? Third, if the wireless adapter is not built into the computer what do you know about the make and model of the wireless adapter? Armed with the above information we should be able to resolve the issue.
