The drive letter for my external USB hard drive
The drive letter for my external USB hard drive (MyBook) has disappeared from Windows Explorer. I tried My Computer/Manage/Disk Management and it is not listed there, either. I also tried powering down the computer and reattaching the external drive power and USB connections, but Windows did not find any new hardware. A check of drive letters in TweakUI shows that all letters are available.

Its seems that the PC is not detecting the drive, Try connecting the drive to any other PC. That will help you find out if the drive is bad, You can try changing the connectin cable too.

If it's not visible under Disk Management, then it means that your drive or cable is faulty. If the drive powers up when you connect the power adaptor, the cheapest thing to try is another USB cable. WD uses a standard A->miniB USB cable which you should be able to purchase easily - just take the original cable with you for reference of the mini plug, as there are a few different ones on the market. Or you can borrow such cable from a friend that has an MP3 player, an USB hub or similar device with same type of socket.
If this fails, I'm afraid it's the MyBook that's broken.
