Problem for Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer

We have a Fisher & Paykel GWL10, the problem

We have a Fisher & Paykel GWL10, the problem we have with it is that when we start the machine in the normal cycle it will start to fill then will stop filling and after about 30 seconds will start to fill again and at the same time pump water out. If we start the machine in any other cycle and wait for it to fill and start agitating and then change the cycle to normal it will finish the load. It also works ok in the complete cycle on any other setting. I bought a service manual and checked for any fault codes and it shows none, unless I am not doing it right.

- I didn’t think this was the problem but I checked it all, both plastic filters (1 blue 1 yellow) clean no rust, I cleaned them anyway with limeaway. Both valves tested ok. My wife said I didn’t explain this quite right. Both; Regular and Heavy Duty cycles do the same thing. They will fill for about 1 minute stop for about 30 seconds and start to fill again but, at the same time it starts pumping the water out. If we start the machine up in the Permanent Press cycle, it will work correctly or after it starts to agitate, we can switch it to Regular cycle and it will complete the wash cycle.

- What timer, we are looking at a GWL 10 ECOSmart Washing machine. Also why would it work in one type of wash cycle and not another ; sounds like nothing to do with a timer to me to start with even if there was such a thing in it.. Also there is no manual setting, all electronic. I think you better have someone else look at my first two messages.

- Since this was my first step (checking the valves) I will have to agree with you. I was just baffled as to why there was no fault codes showing. Will look for a new board on Ebay, and a few other places.

Hi,

Check the water inlet valve. Unplug the machine and turn off the water. Remove the water supply hoses and check the small metal screens inside the openings on the valve. Make sure they are clear of rust or debris. Check the solenoids using a multimeter or ohmmeter. Check for continuity. A lack of continuity means a bad solenoid.

Thanks

ok
I will admit, one of the most dertailed explanations here, I have been reapiring these units and I have never come across this, particular problem.
Although I will tell you this, the problem is in your programming,
or your cold water valve is clogged,, the fill and drain thing is temp control issue,,, it is actualy calibrating the tank water temp, for the required normal wash temp.
Unplug the machine,
Turn off your water, and disconnect, your hoses, hang a towel over the control panal, any water here is dangerous...
inspect your water valve screens, cold inparticular..
then open the control panel..... from the top and remove your control cover,,,,,,its important to unplug this first for feedback issues
on the left you will see your water valve, unplug the solonoids,, ohm these out, you should have continuity through the coils on both valves, they must be unpluged to isolte the coil.
if both of these are good. ITs your control board, or programming issue.
More often then not its a burn resistor on the board some where in the water circuit..... I wont pretend to be an engineer, I never understood why you need such a circuit to open a valve, but hey..... im just a blue collar guy.
Parts are not hard to find, and the reapair can easily be done by you
they are available at www.searspartsdirect.com
the part number is 426930P......
please be advised this part is $200.00,,,,, and without actually taking the voltages myself, i could no way guarentee this is correct.
these machines have a way of making anyone look foolish.
but if you can understand my driblle here, it should get you on the right traqck

It is possible that the water flow to the unit is low and the timer is advancing before the drum is full

Check the inlet valve for blockages, to do so you have to start the machine as if you are doing a wash but turn the water supply off.

This will release the pressure in the supply lines

Undo the connector on the back and look inside the valve entrance for dirt or grit in the filter , if it is dirty you can pull it out using a paipr of fine nosed pliers.

Re-assemble and test

After that you are looking at obstructions in the pressure switch line or the pressure switch itself

- You could try pre-filling the machine via the with water with the load in then close the door and see if it washes ok

Other whacky test is if the machine is filling to a lower level on the other two settings than the one you are having problems with and the outlet pipe is not providing a good air break you could be activatng a syphon action on the outlet hose which would give the effect of a drain out

I have reviewed your problem and have the fallowing items for you to access.
First, this sound like your timer has taken a turn for the worst.
If the unit will complete a cycle, once started manually, the timer is the part you will need to look at.
Below I am leaving you a parts look up website for your unit but can only go so fare with present information.
Hope this works for you, a timer is allot cheaper than a motor or transmission part.
Good luck, hope this works for you.
