Canon has no driver for CanoScan N1240U on its website for Windows 7. But, if you want to try with the one for Windows Vista, you can find it here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_n1240u#DriversAndSoftware

Trying to load CanonScan N124OU onto Windows 7 and get error message "there is no application registered for this event"

canon scan n1240u will work on Win7

here's how:

go to this site: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_n1240u#DriversAndSoftware

click "Drivers and Software" then select OS "Windows XP" then download "WIAdriverN670UN676UN1240U.EXE"

Install the WIA driver on your Windows 7 OS and used only mspaint to capture image on the scanner

TWAIN doesn't work on Win7 but WIA still doesGood Luck!

If possible, try it on another computer. If the symptom is the same, then the scanner requires service.

Scanned image has a line running through it

This could be one faulty sensor pixel or a speck of dirt on the scanner bar. It might be worth opening the scanner and carefully dusting the bar with a camera cleaner aerosol.
