Overheat? my v2000 series compaq notebook overheated about a week ago. It was running overnight, and was hot to the touch in the morning, but still running fine. It worked fine for two days, then started freezing after about 20 minutes of use. I checked and found that the heatsink is clean. any other suggestions?

how do I check fan speed? I checked the bios menu and there was no option. Also, did you mean reformat my HD? I'm certainly not doing that unless it's my last option!

Your cooling fan may not be working propperly, check to see if the processor or rams are damaged

Try reformatting it and if it still stalls that your problem is your processor if it cant complete format propperly its your rams or hardrive..

BUT check your cooling fan, that system should not overheat unless the fan is not working propperly (spin fast enough or too small)
