Does the hard drive show up in the bios?
It sounds like you operating system is damaged and you will need to reinstall it.
If there is anything you need to get off the hard drive you will need to put the hard drive into a desktop via an adapter or use a bottable disc program called backtrack2 to get data off and onto a memory stick.
Hope this helps?

Is the boot order set correctly in the bios? Its should be set to cd 1st then hd then removable devices. Sounds like its trying to boot from something other than hd.
