If you have a problem the dvd drive and you are sure it is the drive that is faulty you can replace it. find a techician to find out what the problem is and he if suggests to replace it then you happly take that way.

I have vaio DVD/CD writer. Sony CD/DVD Unit model AW-G540A it was removed from a Sony Notebook laptop Model PCG-9U1M. The Unit was working perfectly until the laptop was dropped and the screen was damaged, You can find the specification on the net. if its the original drive that came with the laptop ...just reinstall the operation system ...and this will fix the problem ...if will continue to do that ...it means that its something wrong with the device and need to be replaced.. you can also go to bios and restore factory defaults by presing F9 or choosing the optimal defaults from the menu ...after that just save changes and reboot ...this in case the problem is from there ...cause there are cases when the drive may be deactivated from bios..
There should be a small screw or screws on the bottom near the drive. You should be able to slide the drive assembly out once these are removed.
