I have a whirlpool and the top comes off by removing two screws on the back and lifting the top off, and you can look inside and see everything. I cannot find a parts list picture of your model to tell how it is put together.

your dryer drum wheels that support the drum are either stuck on their shaft or the shaft that they turn on are rusty or eroded out on the wheels/spindle and are creating the noise you hear, you need to access the drum and lower area to see these wheels there are 4 wheels 2 at the back of the drum and 2 at the front of the drum, the rear 2 are most likely the porblem, from the heat of the dryer element
TRY TO ORDER A REPLACEMENT FROM THE PARTS STORE IT WILL BE EASIER TO USE AN YOU CAN FOLLOW THE COLOR CODED WIRES, PLUS YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FIRES OR OTHER PROBLEMS TO OCURR
A piece of clothing is probably caught in the blower wheel.
Remove lint filter.
Use flashlight to look into filter housing to the lower left.
You may be able to retrive the item if you can see it.
Try rotating the drum in both directions while looking.
I would fix the machine if everything else is working on in.
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

The belt probably broke, and coincidentally happened while drying the shoes. The belt is easy to replace. Open the back and you'll probably see the belt laying on the bottom
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication. If you have a front loading machine, Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers. Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them. If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. It's probably time for new drum support rollers. There are two rollers the drum rides on and their bearings can fail, which makes them noisy and also makes the drum wobbly while it turns. Replacing the rollers isn't difficult, and you can do it yourself if you feel comfortable working with hand tools and are patient.
Here's a good site with information on belt replacement and other repair tips, and a source for parts:
How can I check the belt? Is this something I can fix myself?
