Re: ivaljuma@beotel.yu

Why are you using the adapter? is the ethernet port not functioning? Plus modem activity causes no heat, as it requires no internal moving parts. The only moving parts in that model are the fans, hard drive and optical drive. Maybe you should elevate the computer with a laptop stand. It buts space and allows airflow between the bottom of the unit and the surface it is sitting on.

In the photo above, you can see that a OS X ( 10.4 or later ) Apple computer has a utility called activity monitor. It allows the user to see processes going on behind the screen, as which apps or utilizing more of the processor, ram memory and hard drive space. The number one cause of the machine over heating is the processor working hard to crank out the mathmatics needed to calculate and deliver all the commands we ask of it. When the CORE processor temperature rises, the fan speed up to cool the environment down.

I would also examine where on the machine is the heat coming from, as it should give you a clue as to what is working so hard. Also, keep in mind that laptops are going to get hot, and this is normal. If your memory is low, if you keep cds or dvds in the drive, if you have many applications open, if you keep youre bluetooth and wireless card on constantly when not in use, if the laptop top rests on a flat surface or soft surface like a blanket, alll these are common reason why laptops overheat. Make sure the vents are not obstructed and the overall room temperature is mild.

Keep me posted.

Turn on my powerbook G4 but there isn't a chime and nothing comes on the lcd screen

If there's no chime, your problem could be anything from a dead battery or bad AC adapter to a dead logic board.
Does the tip of the adapter on your AC connector light up? If not, that's a problem.
When you push the button on the battery, do you get at least two glowing LCDs? If not, that's a problem.
Otherwise, try the following: remove the battery and the AC jack to make sure the machine is off. Now insert the AC jack, and reset the power management unit by pressing the following multi-key combination:
Shift Control Option Power-button
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to attempt to start the computer normally.
The instructions above are for the 1.5GHz PowerBook G4; the instructions MAY be different if that is not your model.

My mac G4 powerbook doesnt start up. There are

It sounds like the system is corrupted. What I would do is to get your instal disk and boot up holding down the c key on your keyboard. Once you have booted up go to the file menu and run disk utility to verify and repair the hard drive if necessary. Then go to the instal menu and instal a fresh system remembering to preserve the users data so you do not wipe anything. Hopefully this will work.

Can't find an adapter for my G4 ibook M9426B/A?

Score one on e-bay for cheap.  Amazon also sells them, but some of the sellers don't accurately describe their product and you end up getting sh.t that doesn't fit.

Yellow vertical lines on powerbook g4

Never a good sign.... usually means that your video adapter is shot.
Most laptop video is built on the motherboard, so that would entail the entire motherboard being replaced. Any chance it is still under warranty???

One other thing it could be... do the lines chnage at all when you tilt the screen back and forth? If so, it might be a loose connection between the moterboard and the monitor. That would be significantly cheaper to fix!

Cannot connect to the internet

how are you trying to connect it? if you have wired internet, just plug the LAN cable at the RJ-45 LAN port of your laptop and you will be connected. You must have set your LAN Adapter to get IP Address automatically. Also, if you have a wireless network adapter, if you set it up to get IP address automatically, you can connect to available wifi zone.

Connecting Powerbook G4 to Sharp Aquos LC-20D10-W

A few tries, go to the apple in the top left and choose SYSTEM should bring you to:

In the HARDWARE row you should see DISPLAYS. Select that and you will be at:

You have the DETECT DISPLAYS button, and also CLICK the "Show displays in menu bar" box, so you dont have to keep going through menus to configure.

If you look at the F7 key, to the right of the NUM LOCK key (F6), that key allows you to switch from expanded to mirroring or vice versa.

You can also check Apple's Knowledge base....

Overheating PowerBook G4 17" 1.67Ghz

If you have AppleCare and your PB is less than 3 yrs old, take it in- that seems abnormal. It's really strange that your PB was heating up while it was shut down. THat indicated that there is s/thing wrong with the shutdown mechanism. Make sure the machine is hsut down before closing the lid. Let it rest a minute.
