Question about Intel D845WN (KD845WNPAK10) Motherboard

Won't boot, display stuck at Intel desktop board, can't go to BIOS

I got a second hand Intel D845WN MB with a P4 processor. After showing the display card details, it displays the Intel Desktop Board and remains stuck there. The screen did not indicate how I can access the BIOS. I tried changing the RAM with one which has been proven to be in working order with another PC, reseting the CMOS (by taking out the battery and reinsert back after a short while) and tried one HDD with Win X operating system and another with Win 98 but always got into the same situation.

I really appreciate if someone out there could help me solve this problem.

I do not think it is a processor overheating problem. I had tried starting from cold several times. Always get the same result. May be I will try a BIOS recovery after I have downloaded the latest BIOS file from Intel web site. Thanks anyway.

I have resolved the problem on the 1st day of the New Year. On closer visual check on the mobo, I noted that the AGP card is touching the top of one of the screw holding down the mobo. I removed the screw and reseat the AGP card. After some tries, I managed to get into the BIOS. Although I still could not boot up the hdd but now I know that the mobo and cpu are in working order. I am quite confident of booting up the hdd after I got a replacement hdd which would allow me to make some changes to display drivers and IDE controllers stored on the hdd. Thank you for your suggestion anyway.

I had this exact same problem, turns out i just needed to unplug a couple USB devices that were conflicting with the startup. It worked inexplicably well. If you have an external HD i'd start by unplugging that, then other accessories.

Intel DESKTOP BOARD D945GPB-Win XP Home Edition OS. All web searches keep crossref. all other boards D945G* or D945G**. No mention of D945GPB anywhere on net or Intel Site.

Boot up computer from being off and press pause key right top hand side of keyboard when the bios number comes up on the screen. Pause boot up and read the bios number that is displayed during the P.O.S.T sequence of your Bios start up.
Then try googling the Bios number to get the exact motherboard involved.

Good luck !

Trying to upgrade cpu.

Here's a direct link to the service manual of the NetVista 8303-21A:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/netvista_pdf/24p2969.pdf

On page 13 of this manual:
Microprocessor (varies by model type): Intel® Pentium® 4 processor with 256 KB or 512 KB of internal L2 cache memory and Intel NetBurst™ micro-architecture.

It seems that the computer's motherboard does not support Intel P4 processors with more than 512 KB of internal L2 cache. That's why your P4 2.8GHz/1M/533 Prescott processor did not work.
You will have to either buy another processor with 512 KB L2 cache, or replace your motherboard with one which supports the new processor.

Vga card problem

Actually if you goto Newegg.com they have an ATI3850. This is WAAAAY better than the above mentioned card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131070 OR This one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102814 The ATI3650 is probably the highest you want to go. They do have an ATI3850, which is the fastest, and might I add, LAST AGP card. It may bottleneck your processor and that is why I linked the 3650.

MY Intel mother board D845WN can't boot

Try swapping those three connector plugs around from the front panel led lights to the other pins on the 9 pins connector, 5 in a row and 4 pins at the bottom. The bigger plug with 3 holes but only two wire will definitely go on the 5 pins row.

133hz sdram problem

Please check this Intel link that shows specifications for memory that can be used in the Intel D845WN motherboard.
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845wn/sb/cs-008941.htm#1

When upgrading or increasing memory. The DIMM's should be the same. The Intel D845WN board requires the memory to run at 3.3volt. If the memory you are adding is within the Intel spec's, than switch the two Dimm's. Insert only the new DIMM & check if the system hangs. If it does than it is possible the new memory it either not compatable or is defective. For more information about the D845WN board download the manual for you're Intel board. http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845wn/sb/cs-008937.htm

Luck!
