You can try a product available at appliance parts stores called YSANO and follow the directions on the bottle. you can also try dumping in the bottom of the dishwasher about 6 - 8 cups of white vinegar and running the machine without dishes in it. hope this helps.

try washing without dishes with a cup of vinegar or get a product at the store call dish washer cleaner that you use it in and empty dish washer to clean and remove smell.
also could be clogged strainer in the bottom of DW then need to be cleaned out!
We had a Samsung dishwasher for 4 years which I finally replaced with a GE. Always had a problem with a smell. I believe it's because Samsung dw's do not drain properly. I took the filter assembly apart several times (at the bottom of the unit) and cleaned it (was always full of greasy black gunk). This would help temporarily. I will never again buy a Samsung dishwasher (or refrigerator).
This may seem off the wall, but does the float move freely. The float is shaped like a mushroom and is on the bottom of the DW. Try to move it up and down gently. Does it move freely?
The toxic smell is your water warmer element on when there is no water in the basin. Yucky. The float tells you how much water you got in the DW.
yeah there should be a bit but the bottom should also have dishwasher salt in there. this is the bottom. the salt helps kill smells also helps cleaning. when you bought the dishwasher it should of come with a funnel thats for filling the salt into the system.
Thanks for the clarification (we get a lot of people on here that don't know how to really use a dishwasher).
Sounds to me like the DW may need a through going over.
Confirm the make and model of the DW so I can see how it's built. I am suspect that with all the food particles and film you mention, that the spray heads are clogged in the spray bars, and, check that the drain hose is not kinked, and it's attachment into the garbage disposal is clear. I've had these clog before, limiting the ability of the DW to get rid of the dirty water.
You probably have rotting food scraps in the food trap. Take the bottom arm off, remove the filter, and clean. You can also add some bleach to the bottom of the tank and run the dishwasher empty to sanitize the inside. Run a second empty load to rinse. This should help rid the dishwasher of the nasty smell.
