Question about Canon PowerShot SD10 / IXUS I Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera hot but won't turn on after E18 fix

I had the E18 error, and took my SD10 elph apart as in the instructions. Now the camera won't power on. It seemed hot, though, after I'd had the battery in for awhile. Now I put the battery in again and it's not getting hot right away, but I'm not going to leave it in overnight. Any ideas?

Just charged up the batteries, and they worked before the repair, too.

Nothing lit up when I put in the battery--nothing happened at all. Nothing happened when I powered on.

Can I keep the battery in while I'm repairing to keep testing it? Also, there's a rubber circular piece that fell out when I was taking the camer apart. I think it goes under the power button, but then it seems too tight.

I give up. I may have damaged one of the orange ribbons that are on the reverse side of the battery compartment. I'm going to get a replacement on ebay.

    Thanks for your help.

Did you follow this guide when you took your camera apart?

When you put back in the batteries...is there anything happening with the camera? Is there any noise? Does anything light up?

I know you probably don't want to do this but you need to open up the camera again and see if everything is in place. Maybe something got moved/disconnected/broke when you took the camera apart. Check the power supply area...near the battery compartment.

My canon power shot sd630 fell down and the lens does not function.it says lens error, restart camera.where shall I take it for repair and how much it costs to repair

You could try you local electrical or photo retailer but I'd get a quote first. I don't intend to be rude but its likely the repair could cost more than the camera is worth.

Camera shuts off after E18 error code

You have most likely dropped the camera or banged it against something while the lens was out. This situation causes the brass pinion gear to shear teeth off the plastic ring gear on the Inner Lens Housing. It may also cause the guide pins to jump their track. If this is the case the repair bill usually exceeds the value of the camera and you are probably better off selling it for parts on eBay and getting a new higher resolution camera.

Dropped camera- lens will not go back in-

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:
