Whirlpool GU2300 Dishwasher. The machine stops for long periods during the cycle. All lights go out. If the machine is opened before the cycle finishes, it will not resume. If I try to restart, the normal wash light begins flashing. If I then try to cancel, the canel light and the normal wash light flash.

Door is firmly latched, I've had the panel off and all connections seem to be tight. This problem came on suddenly.

I started the cycle at about 8am. It is still running now at 3pm.

I have reviewed your problem with the Whirlpool GU2300 Dishwasher and have the fallowing suggestions for you.
First, unplug the power to the unit and let it sit for a few minutes. This will clear all internal error messages and reset the unit.
You may need to wait up to 3 minutes.
Plug in the unit power and allow unit to re-initialize.
Try to run a normal cycle and time from start to finish. If the unit stops for longer than 45 seconds during a cycle, you may need to have timer replaced.
Hope this reset works for you and you do not need to have unit serviced.

Hi
Door latch.
Open and close the door to make sure the door latch is securely fastened.
Check the dishwasher wiring for a possible loose connection where it connects to the house wiring.
Fuses or circuit breakers.
Check your house fuses or circuit breakers to make sure you have power to the dishwasher.

You may have power, however if a circuit board fails, all the power in the world won't start the washer. You need a technician to test the circuit for internal damage.

Dishwasher will not start

Go to your electrical panel and turn off the circuit that feeds your dishwasher. It will also turn off the clean light. Wait three minutes and then turn the circuit back on. That should reset your machine.

Dishwasher problem

First: this is what Whirlpool says!!
And after this at the bottom Is what the repair manual says when I looked it up for you!

Dishwasher is not operating properly
1.Dishwasher does not run or stops during a cycle
Is the Start/Resume indicator flashing? Opening the door or
interrupting the power stopped the cycle. Close the door and
press START/RESUME.
2.Does the Start/Resume indicator flash 3 times when you
press START/RESUME? The dishwasher is waiting for you to
open the door after the last cycle. Open and close the door,
then press START/RESUME.
3.Is the door closed tightly and latched?
(NOTE: On models with a dual-digit display, the control
displays “- -” during a cycle if it believes the door is not
latched.)
4.Is the right cycle selected? Refer to the “Cycle Selection
Charts.”
5.Is there power to the dishwasher? Has a household fuse
blown, or has a circuit breaker tripped?
6.Has the motor stopped due to an overload? The motor
automatically resets itself within a few minutes. If it does not
restart, call for service.
7.Is the water shutoff valve (if installed) turned on?
It is normal for certain cycles to repeatedly pause for several
seconds during the main wash.
___________________________________________________________

BUT, the repair manual says this

Faulty Pump and Motor Assembly Some models that will not wash or drain often have a faulty Pump and Motor Assembly. If the motor is receiving power from the timer and it is not operating that is the case.
Temporary Work-around:
With the power turned off to the unit, sometimes it is possible to manually rotate the cooling fan on the motor assembly. In certain situations where the dishwasher has set idle for a period of time, this may free the bearings enough that the unit will begin to operate. Where this works as a short term solution in some cases, it is often a sign of things to come. The frequency of the motor seizing will increase until it will simply no longer work.

I think this is a hands job that needs service and hands on attention!
I hope it's not the motor or pump!

How old is the machine?
If they tell you it is an expensive motor then you need to know this!!!!

Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!

If the dishwasher will not fill

Check the overfill protection float that is able to move up and down
freely? Press down to release.

Let me know if any of these procedures helped you?

Problems with Whirlpool dishwasher model GU1500XTKB0

will these units (silo and jtrip) start back on their own? if so, it is likely they are heating the water.
otherwise it sounds like a logic board, unless there is a defective door switch or sensor issue.
electronics seem to be a recurring problem with whirlpool.
i would ask whirlpool (electorlux) to either buy it back or fix it.
good luck
