700x digital zoom mini dv - focus problems

hi just turned camcorder on, and keeps telling me lens cap on, but it isnt, tried adjusting focus but still says lens cap. cannot pick up focus of anything screen dark cannot see anything, can you help!

When we turn it on, the screen is very, very dark, and it says the lense cap is on, even when it isn't. It's a little bit brighter when in photo mode, but still very dark
