Google port forwarding, you need to set up your router so it forwards the port of the game that you are playing to your pc's ip address you will see significant performance improvements

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Just upgraded my internet speed. Went from a ping speed around 85ms to 800ms. Because the Ping speed is so High I can not play my 2 online game I get lag.look at the ISP but it did not say what to do.

You may have to configure your new router to pass gaming traffic with a priority over other traffic. Can't help you much more than that without knowing more.

I have frontier services with a net gear modem/router i was told by xbox live to get a d-link router an it would help my problem with running 2 xbox 360 with no lag whats so ever but dont know what im...

well, unless the D-link is also a modem/router, I don't see how ADDING the D-link router to a lagging network will reduce said lag. They probably wanted you to REPLACE the current router with that one.....

will "frontier service" allow that router to be set in a "modem-only" setting ? You'll have to get with them on that. as for the D-link, there are manuals as well as an Online Emulator that simulates the Router interface so you can see how to set it up....BEFORE you set it up !

[PS: tracking-down lag problems can be should be experiencing bad lag with all sites for it to be your hardware....

When i play my xbox 360 im getting a friend said i should have a setting to prevent this but im not sure which one it is or how to do it..

Everyone experiences lag from time to time. Lag is often the Xbox (Microsoft) servers themselves, however if you are always the lag source, then there are several potential issues and/or solutions:

1) Open/Closed NAT (Network Address Translation): Your NAT should be set to open or not restricted. This is not a console setting. You must log into your router to change this setting. Typically this will fix your issue (especially if game chat or joining is impacted).

Additional changes: Note: If you do not know how to make changes within your router, then get help from someone who does (parent, or write back with your router brand and model number and ask for assistance).

2) Within your Router ENABLE the UPNP setting.

3) Another option: Within your router, assign your console a static IP address. Then set up port forwarding for the following ports: 88 UDP and 3074 UDP & TCP. This way you can keep NAT closed, but allow unrestricted internet traffic to xBox.

4) If using wireless network adapter, unplug it and run a CAT5 cable from the Xbox directly to the router. If your lag issue goes away, then there could be interference with the wireless traffic. If interference, then log into router and change the broadcast channel.

5) High speed internet and traffic: You really need high speed internet (cable or DSL), close proximity to the router and bandwidth to fully enjoy online gaming. If there is a housefull of net users (Youtube, movies, music, gaming, etc..) then you can expect lag issues.
Upgrade to a higher speed package. 3 or 8 Mbps download is fine if you are by yourself, but with lots of activity, then you need 16 to 30 speed (which is really volumetric capacity and not speed). Check your download/upload speed at

6) Make sure your Modem (not router) is DOCSIS 3 and not the older DOCSIS 2 versions. Ask your ISP to check your connection for any potential problems. They can typically read this from their end.

7) Check all cable connections coming into the house, all the way to the Modem. If DSL, then check phone lines and filters.

8) Finally, and I am sure this never happens, if surfing off of a neighbors system, then stop mooching and buy your own! ;-)

Hope this helps!

How do you change the MTU settings on TEW-651BR router

You do _NOT_ want to change this setting:
* choosing a smaller value will "truncate" some data-packets, thus losing information;
* choosing a larger value may increase your "lag" when playing online computer-games.

Game speed very slow and system lags behind, when pressing selections during game. I have a wireless router, don't know if that could be the problem.

Wireless routers can be "ok" for gaming but for any REAL gaming you need to be hardwired (cat 5, ethernet cable)

Cat 5 is twive the speed of wireless and if yours is an older wireless then it can be up to 8 times faster using cat5

You need a good solid 5 bar signal to even consider any heavy games. Any less or intermittant connections cause a lot of lag.

Some older routers have soecific settings for gaming so you may want to investigate those.

You neglected to give the router make and model so I cannot advise much more than this.

I want to change the existing wireless password on a netcomm nb5plus4w, can anyone help?

Your model NetComm may have a pinhole RESET button at the back of the router. If so power up the router and press and hold the RESET button until the LEDs flash. The router will now be returned to the factory default settings with the default password. You can now go into the router's configuration to change the password etc.

Xbox 360 lag whilst on my laptop

performance may be due to traffic bursts from the xbox. One thing you can try is to decrease the encryption to a low setting as a test and see what happens. You also may want a higher powered router if you want to get the best out of the experience. Try to guage your speed and data rate over the wireless and if possible compare with a friends setup.

Netcomm NP745n wireless USB adaptor drops in and out of connection on about a 10-15 sec, cycle

I would like you to attempt this troubleshooting technique which helps alot of people:
1st: Unplug your High Speed router then unplug your Wireless Router (ALL WIRES)
2nd: Shut Down your Computer(s)
3rd: After 60 seconds of your High Speed Router and Wireless router being disconnected please plug the High Speed router back in make sure that it appears Online/Connected then plug in your Wireless Router make sure that it appears Online/Connected.
4th: Turn on your computer, login in and reattempt connection.
If this process does not work, I would like you to take a few minutes and go over this URL that will help you find a place to put your Wireless Router to make sure you receive Good/Excellent Signal which is Microsoft "10 tips for improving your wireless connection." Is there anything else I can help you with?

there are two reasons for this issue,

1. open the desired ports of the router
2. the firewall of the router is blocking it.
