Question about RCA HD50LPW42 50" Rear Projection HDTV

2 Answers

Sawing noise I've had this tv for about 2 years. Turned it on yesterday - went on but there was a sound I never heard before - like a table saw (not the whinning noise that happens when the lamp needs to be replaced). There was a picture. Turned it off, then on but this time no picture and the power light did it's blinking thing (like it does when it's not able to communicate with bulb). I was sure it wasn't the bulb because we just replaced it about a year ago, but I had new one which I switched with the current bulb, but the results were the same. It's not a bulb problem. What else could it be?

Thanks HandyBoy. What is the ballast? Is it something I can replace on my own?

I have the same problem after 2 1/2 years. There is a loud whirling noise and the color fades in out of different shades (purple, blue, yellow). The very loud noise continues up to 20 minutes after you shut off the TV. The noise first came 3 months ago and stopped, then it resurfaced.

Did any one find out what the problem was?

Sounds like the same problem I encountered with my TV might be
ballast.

looks like your on the handy side, please double check that your bulb is still intact. I know your sure its still good but it pays to check. The ballast needs to be done by a tech as much as I would like you to save money on it. It sometimes pays to have fall back, the tech will give you a warranty on the job. Good news is the ballast is not that expensive depending on the model that you have. If you look at the manual that came with your tv it should say on the trouble shooting guide what the trouble is. Two red blinks indicates colour wheel. Three red blinks and one green is the bulb etc. those were just samples of course and not to be taken literally please always refer to your manual.

In case of this kind of questions you can only advise someone to go back immediately where they have bought the tool for warranty or exchange or money back.

No other suggestions but few years to late to give the only right answer in this cause of question.

I haven`t used the saw in a year, should I lubricate the motor bearings? Something is making a sqweaky sound when I turn on the saw.

Unplug the saw. Look inside the blade housing for any foreighn objects. if it is clear, shoot some oil into the bearings and work it in well.

I was cutting 2" dense foam insulation board,

The problem you have is a faulty field coil, the Bosch saws unfortunatly have a bit of an issue with this. The coil can be replaced separatly so you won't have to replace the whole motor. Bosch has a 1 yr warranty on thier table saw so this is a warranty replacment provided the saw was purchased within the year. If not the coil replacment is still cheaper than buying a whole new saw, but should really be done by a service center because of the level of difficulty of the repair.

You can chec wiring or switch with an ohmmeter to determine if it is bad. You should be able to remove a few screws to access the inside of the saw fairly easily. You can easily by-pass the switch by twisting the wires together. Though it will have to be untwisted to shut off again. You could just unplug it. There isn't much to these.

My table saw will turn on, but sounds very loud

Possibly bearing wear, or the blade rubbing against the guard/housing. Unplug the saw and spin the blade slowly by hand, if it feels notchy then I would suggest bearing wear. if it only seems to feel notchy in places then it could also be damaged gears.
