Question about RCA HD50LPW42 50" Rear Projection HDTV

2 Answers

Sawing noise I've had this tv for about 2 years. Turned it on yesterday - went on but there was a sound I never heard before - like a table saw (not the whinning noise that happens when the lamp needs to be replaced). There was a picture. Turned it off, then on but this time no picture and the power light did it's blinking thing (like it does when it's not able to communicate with bulb). I was sure it wasn't the bulb because we just replaced it about a year ago, but I had new one which I switched with the current bulb, but the results were the same. It's not a bulb problem. What else could it be?

The fix for this is by replacing two identical IC's

But before replacing these IC's technicians check small components called resistors and pico fuses. They also check for loose or cold solder connections.

Nothing happens. power on,can hear click

I had the same problem, but I saw the events leading to it. I was watching TV, went to help the wife, heard a pop, came back to find the TV off. Turned it on, heard the same click you described. I believe you need a new bulb. Mine lasted around 2 years of heavy use. Bought two on ebay. Make sure to consult your manual for the particulars on the bulb.

Sony KDF-50WE655

It sounds like the lamp is definitly bad.
Look at it and more than likely it is broken.
The lamp is located in the front of the set. The bottom front is a cover that has a dial on each side of the back of the sets that can be turned by hand (counter clockwise) holding the front panel in place.
There is a metal strip that is holding a door in place and can be removed.
The lamp is being held in place by a screw that needs to be removed with an allen wrench.
There are several places that you can buy lamps online.

RCA P52830BL picture is bowed and colors separated.

There is a convergence printed circuit board that likely has a few bad components. If you decide to get it repaired, the technican will probably check for fluid leaks from the picture tubes coolant area which has given problems on this model also. If the picture quality leaves a bit to be desired, it may be a wise move to upgrade to HDTV. A Sony KDS-55A20 model has a great picture and should be less than $2300. I just saw one at a local Sams Club store.
