Hi, I took the front panel off my projection tv and when I put it back on the picture has lines (horizontal and swirling across and downward) going across the picture. I thought wires were on the lenses but the lenses are clean and so is the screen. These lines do change color according to adjusting the color but I cannot figure out where they are coming from.

The vertical deflection circuit has failed, or has been shut down by a service code entered from the remote control*. Usually you can get out of service mode by turning the set off and on again.
*Normally, you have to enter a special combination of front panel and remote control codes to get into service mode, then enter another code on the remote control to get the horizontal line. The horizontal line is used for adjusting the screen controls for each color so you get proper color in the dark areas of the picture.
Your CRT's getting old. Plus dust on lenses don't help much. You have to open front frill (below screen) and back of the TV. Clean up lenses using dry paper towels, do not wet. In front of the TV after grill remove center cover and locate "black box" that have 6 potentiometers on it that looks like plastic adjustment screws for philips #2 screwdriver slots. 3 of them should read "Focus" These you don't touch. Another 3 reads "Screen". Put some still image on your screen (like paused DVD movie frame). Carefully add brightness in all 3 colors trying to avoid horizontal lines appearance. If lines show up, just turn it back a little. Try to keep color balance looking at the picture. This procedure will brighten up image but further reduce CRT's life.
In case that you posted wrong model here and you have DLP Projection TV - just replace the lamp.
I had the same problem with our VS-55705 Mitsubishi. It seemed to me that this was a problem of heat.
I unplugged the TV and then took the cover off of the back of the it. I then used canned air to blow off the collection of dust from the components. Then I vacuumed as close to everything as I could without touching any of the components. I then used glass cleaner to clean up the surface of the three bulbs.
I plugged in the TV and it has worked perfect ever since. I haven't put the rear cover back on it yet. That could have been all that I needed to do to fix it. I'm too busy enjoying a nice picture to try putting it back on. Cleaning the bulbs really helped the quality of the picture.
It is an adjustment, but it's an adjustment you may not want to do. It's the red screen control. It's located behind the front panel so the entire front panel has to be removed in order to access it-which will expose you to hazardous voltages. if you like, I can post detailed instructions on how to get that front panel off, it's kinda tricky.
