Question about Mitsubishi Diamond WD-65831 65" Projection HDTV

2 Answers

Mitsubishi 65831 I have a 65" Mitsubishi tv (model WD 65831) and is only about 9 months old. I heard a pop come from the rear of the tv and now there is no picture at all. I tried resetting the tv but all I get is a popping/clicking sound from inside the tv housing. The audio still works. Any ideas?

If the lamp has failed, don't fall for just paying big $$ for a new one from Misubishi. Instead, of buying their whole lamp assembly, just buy the bulb from me or many other sources on the net and install it into the assy yourself.

Sounds like the projector globe is gone. i think you will need to replace it. if you are lucky there should be a pannel on the side or rear of the tv that allows you to replace the globe. pricey though.

good luck

Sounds like your bulb blew. Here is a link to a very good priced replacement bulb with housing . These are very simple to change yourself.
also, here is a link to a video showing how easy it is. They are made to be replaced by the consumer.
How to replace the lamp in your Mitsubishi TV:
Note, your bulb assembly may vary slightly from the one in the video, but it should come out and go in the same way.
You will need a plastic grocery bag or small garbage bag, some rubber, or latex, or clean cloth gloves, and a medium phillips screwdriver.
Good luck!

Mitsubishi WD-52525 Rear projection hdtv I just turned my tv on and after about 1 minute I heard a pop, and the tv turned off. I tried turning it back on, and I have audio, but no picture...what could...

Your lamp blew. Hopefully the power surge did not take out the ballast. You need to get a new lamp. I have a tip at which will not only tell you where to get the lamp at the best price but also walk you through the repair.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Heard a big popping sound then the screen went black and the red light when on

A common problem for these is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your Tv and look at the power supply on the left hand side.

You will see roughly around 9 x capacitors that are bulged / domed shaped on top usually these are valued at 3300uf 10V any that have bulged or leaked a brown like substance should be changed.
This will cure the problem as they overheat being sat next to a heatsink that gets very hot!
Try and change them for the same 3300uf but a higher voltage.
Hope this helps

Following up on my Feb 7 post. My new lamp arrived, and I replaced it and it works great. The old lamp had many shards of glass come out of it. It was tore up. I saved some money buy purchasing just the lamp and not the cartridge. It's a little bit more work to take apart, but saves money. Mitsubishi wanted $289 for the lamp replacement kit. I got a lamp for $114. TV is working just fine now!
