Debbie: Do you have a windows 8 disk? You will have to reinstall windows 8 again to correct what is wrong with your laptop!! Always do backups of your computer it will save you from more problems. You can save your backup to large usb or dvds or external hard drives. One of the best backup programs is AOMEI BACKUPPER STANDARD is free. If you need any more help just connect me.

Can't do backups because dvd-cd can't find a blank disk. Who can I format?

Drives like some brands/types of DVD, but will never work with some others. Whenever I buy DVDs, I always stick with exactly what worked before with that computer.

Also, if you have accidentally written on the DVDs you could spend days trying to use them to no avail. I always pull the fifth one in the stack, just in case the first few were put back after being accidentally written to.

Look up your DVD in device manager so you know what media it takes. Buy some new (slightly different (brand/type) from the ones you are trying now.

I get this problem and can't get past it help please Unmountable_boot_volume its a problem with the recovery system a blue screen for dell inspiron 2650

I sure hope you kept a recent backup. Something has gone terribly wrong in there. If you didn't keep a recent backup, do you still have the Windows setup disk(s), or the Recovery disk? It sounds like you will need to do one of those. STRONG ADVICE_ DO NOT start to run a Recovery or Resoration disk NOR a backup and then stop it part-way done! I did that recently, and it took me 3 months to find a solution. It deletes all your partitions. Then nothing will work without much research and work. Once you start a recovery from a disk or a backup, let it finish! It may take awhile, but it's worth it. Don't panic. Just do a backup restore or a restoration disk, and any lost data, will be lost. People call using the Restoration CD a "reformat". It gives you a fresh install of Windows. Try to always keep a recent full partitions backup, it's worth it's weight in gold. Feel for you!

Uninstall Norton that you think might have caused the issue . The only backup program I would and personally use is Acronis True Image Home Edition. Version 11 can be found on for around $30.00

New Dell Inspiron, wont play DVD's states no device drivers and ref TSSTcorp DVD 2B RW TS L633B

You need to use the software to play DVD movies. Try using windows media player to start the DVD or if the computer came with DVD playing software then try it. You can also check the Dell site and download the latest driver package and install the drivers. It might be missing the dvd rom driver. When you put in the DVD does it autoplay and ask you what software to use to open the disc? You can also go into the control panel and check the device manager. Check and see if the dvd rom is a problem device and/or try to update driver for the device. Have you tried different dvds? Maybe it is having a problem with just that DVD. Some DVD's will not play in a computer but will play in a DVD player.

Cd rom not working

Backup all your data, copying data in My Documents, Desktop, copying favourites and eventually Outlook data. Copy the data on an external hard disk.
When everything has been saved do a Complete Recovery using the Sony Recovery CD.
The computer will go back to factory settings, in the same state as it was when you purchased it.
That is the easiest way to proceed when you get multiple system problems of this kind.

There are DVD hack sites that provide firmware to make your DVD player region free. You'll have to do a search for them and select one to use.
