How to change the bushes on a Dewalt DW928 14.4V

You will need to get part # 389025-00 which is the brush pair kit. Remove the 8 torx screws from the right side handle half. Make sure you have the drill on its side and pry the handle half off carefully. Make sure not to disturb the insides too much. You could possibly mess up the transmission setup if care is not taken. After removing the handle half you want to take out the motor, switch and transmission all together. Remove the motor from the transmission taking care not to let all the insides of the transmission fall out. You will not like having to figure out how all those gears go back into the transmission. If you have a piece of duct tape handy, I suggest putting it over the transmission so you don't hit it accidentally and send small gears flying. ( I have done this on numerous occasions) Once your transmission is safely away from the motor you can pry out the whole brush block with a flathead screwdriver. The brush block just slides out. I suggest you do one side at a time and replace both the brush box and wire. Make sure you use the correct color wire and replace it exactly as saw the original. DC switches and motors can be damaged if you wire it incorrectly. All it takes is one squeeze of the trigger to ruin either when wired wrong. After replacing the brush blocks you can reassemble the drill. Take note that there are tabs on the transmission that have to line up properly with the handle half in order to seat properly.
