This morning the tv was working fine. Went to take a shower came back out and turned it on. The pic was pale and had white lines running through it (the sound was fine) then it went black (still could hear) then just shut off completely. The set is only 2 years old.

Most likely the high voltage transformer took a dive. If the picture was still good before it went out it is probably worth a check out fee. Another possibility is that there was a loose solder joint developing and moving the set around helped the loose joint come completely undone. Thanks
sound like vertical section problem, need to replace back same same # vertical ic& importance thing need to check component around ic like capacitors & resistors.then the vertical section be working fine. good luck!
If you mean thin white lines, this is is an indication of a problem in the Horizontal Drive ckt. most likely the Damper Diode has opened or shorted, this would cause the visual symptom and then the set would shut down, unfortunately this is a problem best left to a qualified technician to repair, hope this helps.
Not acutally a solution.
We are having this EXACT same problem; it started this week. Let us know what you are having done. I've called Toshiba and service reps but they are all quoting a price which is almost half the value of the tv. Have you been able to fix it? We are pretty upset since the 2year warranty recently expired. Obviously, it seems that others are having this problem as well. Email us: email@example.com
