Magnavox Projection DLP HDTV

Top Experts,

Please help with my recent problem of the TV Magnavox 50ML8105D/17 Projection DLP HDTV playing normally (picture looks bright and clear) then after a couple of minutes of use the power cuts off and the error lamp indicator red light on the front display panel stays on (no blinking - solid red).
I can turn on the TV again but the same problem happens over and over....
Is the projection lamp going bad?

    Thanks for the quick reply pizzaguy50....the fan was dusty but after cleaning the same power shut down followed by the error lamp message ocurred.

    Thanks for the help but I still need a fix.

    I am having the identical problem. I have replaced the lamp, cleaned the fan etc. I was told that when you replace the lamp you have to "reset the timer". Unfortunately Magnavox doesn't know how to do that and they told me to call for service. Any ideas on resetting the lamp? I really miss my tv

    I am having the same issue. I replaced the light, should I replace the fan if cleaning it wont help? My husband talked to a repair guy and he said that the control board should be replace???? $1600.00 dollars for it.

    I am having the same trouble....TV shuts down and lamp led stays on but I can turn it right back on and it works fine for a couple more minutes. It looks like the bulb works fine. I would really like to know for sure before I spend $200 for a new bulb only to have the same problem.

    i am experiencing the same problems as the others.I've replaced my bulb already,and my tv is only 15 months old.after i changed the bulb the tv worked for about 2 hours and then started shutting off due to the temperature. my light would not blink either it would just be constant.

    We have the same problem with our T.V we have changed the lamp twice, but still have the same problem with the overheating. I find it funny we all have the same problem yet there has been no recall on this model. Where did you all get your T.V.s ? We bought our through Sam's club. Maybe we should all contact the better business bureau.

    Same problem tv shuts off on its own and light stay on. I have cleaned the fan and the screens still does same thing.

    I have had the same problem and have replaced the lamp supply as well as the main power supply. Tried the fan solution and it worked for about a week or two then got progressively worse. Apparantly it's not the lamp. Don't know what else it could be.

    my tv keeps cutting off and the temp light comes on.... I just replaced the bulb 3 weeks ago. my home is not hot could you tell my why my tv keeps overheating?

    We've had the same model tv for going on 4 years now. We have had the same problem since we bought it. We have never replaced the bulb which is nice. Sometimes the overheat light comes on when the unit shuts off but most of the time it doesn't, the tv just shuts off. It's extremely annoying especially on the days when it happens every 5 minutes. Other days it won't do it at all. I hate that it happens especially after dishing out so much cash for it but I have to say we have learned to live with it. Magnavox obviously doesn't care to fix the problem or work for their customers. I love the picture and it does awesome at playing blu-ray dvds but I will never buy another Magnavox POS again.

    Wow, I have the same problem. My TV switches off and either the over heat or the lamp light comes on. I can turn back on the set and until recently it would work for a week or two. This week it started going off daily and now it is every 5-15 minutes. I tried keeping the TV off for hours but it still has the same 5-15 minute turn off. I tried dusting with a dust sprayer but now my TV doesn't even get power.
    I am so glad I bought the 3 year SAM's warranty. I've already replaced the bulb once, covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Also had the power board replaced. I love the look of this TV and the inputs and zoom/ picture size choices but the problems have been numerous.
    I heard that replacing the fuse in back of the bulb unit, or putting a fan on it, or replacing the sensor is the fix, but I think it is more than that.

I replaced the projection lamp and added a small fan at the right side vent to help pull the air through the set. This cured the problem.

Bur, recent, my set has a green tint to the picture. Hunam faces look pale green, like in th Wizard of Oz. Any ideas?

As far as the overheat light is concerned on these. Pull the 2 vents off both sides of the tv and clean them out. They will probably be full of dust. This prevents airflow through the TV and makes the fan work harder. I have a problem with mine where the DLP light comes on when the TV shuts off. I don't want to guess with a 100 dollar bulb. Does anyone know how to test the DLP bulb or what else I can check so I can watch TV again?

I've been having the same problem. I tried the fan in the back and dissconnecting the sensor behind the light but i'm not sure if it was the right one? Was it the rectangle one with the yellow wire? please help

I had the same problem...I took the back panel off the tv and took a small desk fan and mounted it so it would keep the bulb extra cool...IT WORKED! I left it like this for about a week. It shut off only twice after about 4 hours of on time. I then disconected the small white ceramic sensor on the back side of the light. (there is a plug conecting it, just follow the wire to it) It has been about 3 weeks now and I have not had the tv shut off yet. (disclaimer...could start fire from over heating? try at your own risk.) If it works for you buy a new sensor.

Many problems can cause this symptom. The only thing I can suggest is check the cooling fans. If they stop or are running slow because of dust they can trigger the shutdown.

I replaced my lamp yesterday 3/26/08 and still have the same problem. I kept turning it on / off before I replaced the lamp. 10 or so tries and it would stay on. I believe this eventually burnt out my lamp. Fans are clean/ new lamp, same problem. Another forum I read mentioned a firmware upgrade? Any advice.

It sounds like you have a bad color wheel. If you are handy with electronics, it is a pretty simple fix. If not, I would suggest you take your set to a qualified service center.

Replaced lamp in magnavox 50ML8105D/17 and now I only get sound for about 10 seconds with no picture then the tv shuts off

I would double check the install of the Lamp and also make sure the Lamp door is closed tightly and secure.

Blu Ray connection on notebook to tv

i would go with the dvi or, avi pc inputs. this will mesh well with this Phillips.

Try cleaning the air filter and see if that solves the problem.

TV Magnavox 50ML8105D/17 Problem

I have the same problem my DLP TV would shut off after 30 minutes or less all red LED's. Solution: The fan on the lamp assembly was not turning at the proper RPM (bearing going bad) so it was going into overtemp mode. The original part number was a SUNON KDE1209ptv3 12v 1.3W I had a hard time finding one to match that spec. DIGI-KeyCorp ( was able to cross reference it to a 3 lead P11034-ND part number (NMB-MAT model fba09a12L).

I Installed the fan and problem went away.
Remove the lamp from the lamp assembly
Remove the back panel.
From the back, slide the main circuit board to the left (loose one screw)
Remove the power interlock on the lamp assembly (2 screws)
Disconnect Lamp assembly cooling fan lead.
Remove the 4 silver slotted screws on the lamp assembly, 2 in the front and 2 in the back.
Carefully remove the lamp assembly from the rear. WATCH the Mirror.
Remove fan, cut leads and solder or **** splice on to the new fan.
Repeat steps for installation
