Re: printer not working-making noise
There might be somethng jammed in the printer, Look and see if there is anything there...
if not then unplug the printer and move the print head all the way to the other side being carefull not to force it. If ou have to use a lot of force to move it then somethng is jamming it.
With the print head all the way to the other side look at the drive belt(the thing that moves to move the print head its like a rubber belt with groves it should go all the way across the printer) and the cables abd ensure its in correctly..
Turn the printer back on and it should work..
If not then take the printer apart and look at all the gears and bands to see if anyis broken or out of place. replace broken components or fit what ever has slipped ut of place back and you should be fine.

Note: If you see a Print Pack low message on the photo viewer, you may not be able to clean the print head until you replace the Print Pack.
Load paper in PictureMate so you can print a nozzle check pattern after cleaning the print head.
Press the arrow buttons to select Maintenance and press OK.
Press the arrow buttons to select Auto Cleaning and press OK.
Press OK again to clean the print head. Cleaning takes about 60 seconds. PictureMate makes some noise and you see an Auto Cleaning message.
When cleaning is complete, PictureMate prints a nozzle check pattern.
Check the pattern to see if there are any gaps in the lines.
Do one of the following:
If there are no gaps, Press OK.
If there are gaps, Press the Back button.
Follow the instructions on the screen to clean the print head, check the nozzles, and repeat the process as necessary.
If you don't see any improvement after cleaning the print head up to 4 times, turn off the product and wait at least 6 hours. Then try cleaning the print head again. If quality still does not improve, one of the ink cartridges may be old or damaged and needs to be replaced.
Follow these steps to clean the print head from the printer's control panel: 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red b error light is off. If the red light is flashing or on, you may need to replace the ink cartridge. 2. Press the down button to highlight More Options, then press OK. 3. Use the up or down button to highlight Head Cleaning, then press OK. 4. To begin cleaning, press OK. While cleaning, the printer makes noise and you see a progress bar on the control panel display. Cleaning takes about 30 seconds. Caution: Do not turn off the printer or interrupt the cleaning process. 5. When the cleaning is done, run a nozzle check to confirm the print head nozzles are clean. Make sure letter-size plain paper is loaded in the printer, then press Stop. The nozzle check pattern prints. 6. If the pattern has gaps or missing dots, press Stop to clean the print head again. If the nozzle check pattern looks correct, press OK to finish.
Note: Run nozzle check at least three consecutive times. If you do not see any improvement and you have replaced the ink cartridges, your product may require service.
Press the Setup Button Scroll till you find Tools Options - Press OK Look for Printer Alignment - Press OK
IF the alignment goes thru well, your printer will be able to print/scan/copy.
If it still makes grinding noise or makes unusual noise, Turn off the printer and open the rear access door. Clean the rollers with lint free cloth. Close the door. Open the front access door and check if the carriage moves freely ( cartridge holder ) and check for any obstruction.
If you tried the above steps and still unable to make the printer work, it could be hardware failure.
The printhead not moving to the left I think I can solve. Open the top cover, the yellow light on the paper feed button wil come on solid, press and HOLD this button until you hear the print head assembly make some noises (about 10 to 20 seconds) then release the button and then the printheads will move and park on the left so you can remove the printhesd(s)
