Rear projection TV - convergence issue

Our 5 year old Samsung 65" rear projection TV (Model #HCN653WX) is having a convergence issue in the top-middle and bottom-middle of the screen, which makes the picture look concave into the tv set. A month ago, we had a Pro Scan Module replaced to fix an issue with black shadow lines appearing everywhere, which made the quality of the picture like new. We turned it on one morning and the problem appeared. I tried the 'perfect focus' option. I also tried manually correcting the convergence with the remote and also via the service/factory settings. It won't let me adjust the individual points on the screen. Any suggestions on what the root problem may be? I attached a picture of the TV and the convergence problem.

You have a bad sensor, a bad digital convergence board, or the new board is not working correctly. I would start by swaping out the convergence board or exchange it for another one. Good Luck

SOURCE: the colors are blurry and will not converge

This model uses a Single convergence IC---a STK-393-110.

If convergence is skewed and will not adjust the chip needs to be replaced.

Most shops get 300 or more for this repair---you can buy the IC on Ebay for about 12 dollars--total parts cost should be under 30 dollars.

I have Start to finish, step by step instructions for this repair in this set--they tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair.

Let me know if you have questions or want the instructions.

If this helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Samsung HCN653WX has wavy lines and red and blue ghosting

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Mixed colors and separation of colors

Common problem known as convergence. The most common reason is the failure of convergence ics. these ics fail all the time because there big and get fairly hot. there is a possiblity that it can be reconverged if the convergence cuircit is not damaged
