Hello, Here are a couple of suggestions: 1. Make sure the games you are using are not dirty or scratched. 2. The problem could be that the optical reader is dirty and needs to be cleaned. You can take a cu tip and dip it into some regular rubbing alcohol and then make sure you shake any excess off. Unplug your game system from any power system. When you open the top of where you place the discs in, you will see the optical reader assembly in the upper middle of the cradle. You will notice what looks like a little glass bubble, this is the optical reader lens. Take the cu tip with alcohol on it and wipe it in a circular motion gently, make sure that you do not press down hard on the lens. You need to repeat the steps a couple of times and then swab off the lens with the dry portion of the cu tip and let air dry for about 30 seconds before plugging back in to the outlet. Try to replay the games. In most cases these steps will solve the problem because dirt and dust builds up rather easily. If you have scratches on your discs you can take them to a gamestop store if you have one in your area and they will clean the discs for you for free. If you do not have one, you can take and wet the disc and then take regular liquid dish soap and rub it on the disc again in a circular motion and then rinse the disc really well with water. Dry the disc with a soft lint free cloth until there are no smears or smudges. You can also buy a cleaning disc at most walmart or electronics store if you like. If this does not solve your problem, your game system could have other serious problems like the optical reader has malfunctioned (which is rather expensive to replace) or if the disc is not spinning, the problem will be the spindle motor (the part is not expensive, but to have a technician replace it could run you anywhere from 40-90 dollars). I hope this helps and please let us know if you need further assistance.
If you do not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You

on how to do this just comment and ill respond.Or you could
take it to a repair shop .cost to replace the laser 50.00-70.00
and to clean should be around 35.00-40.00.

On setting up a new PS2 I got the message "No memory card inserted in MEMORY CARD slot 1. If you wish to save your high scores, player profiles and option settings, insert a memory card (PS2) with at least 50KB of free space" and can not progress any further. Any ideas?? I do not have a memory card and will never ever want to save scores. All I will ever use the PS2 for is for Singstar.
