it's really a common problem, im actually a Sony agent and i've been seeing this problem since win vista OS came up, the problem is that your camcorder needs to import the video live to the computer, what we call " stream". Winsows Vista didnt come with this feature, so what is going to be the solution at the end is to get a different type of connection called "i.link", or weel known as Firewire. That is going to be compatible with your win vista OS computer, OR get a "dazzle" from Pinnacle Studio, they've developed a new kind of connection wich actually alows you to connect your A/V connection (the one that you use for your TV) to this box that converts that to USB, i hope that you can solve your problem with this info.
