You set the FN keys to default accidentally.
Sorry I'm not familiar with that computer, but a couple of key strokes will set it right.
Look for a NUMLOCK key.

I have a gateway laptop running windows 8 and all of a sudden my number pad stopped working. I've searched and read till my eyes feel like they're going to fall out, help!!

Have you pressed/un-pressed the NUMLOCK key?

You may have a stuck key somewhere on your 10-key numeric keyboard. Sometimes dirt (coffee, dust, soda) is blocking the contacts to the circuit board from the keyboard.

Why do I get a 1 when I type a j?

Hi, this is becasue your "num lock" key is truned on. on laptops there is no numer keypad so when you press the num lock key some of the letters do double duty as numbers. Just press the num lock key again and it will turn your keyboard back to normal.

My keys on my gateway laptop is not working right

Your keyboard has a "Numeric Pad" on/off button, in order to compress a full-sized keyboard (with its separate numeric-pad, on the right) into the smaller size of the laptop keyboard.

Press that on/off button, to resume "normal" operation of those keyboard characters that are "multi-labelled".

You must have a different keyboard selected other than the standard US keyboard My numeral 6 has ^ on it and the numeric keypad 6 has a right arrow. One generally uses the SHIFT key to access symbols that are written above the main alpha or numeric key. The numeric keypad on side of PC has a button labeled key marked NUMLOCK that is engaged to allow use of the numerals as a calculator or to also be inserted into text.

Unlock numeric key pad on lap top

your laptop should have a blue FN key (Function) that will work in conjunction with other blue keys on teh keyboard. most laptops this is located in the lower left, next to the ctrl key. Look to the right top on your keyboard for a one labeled numlk. hold down teh left FN key and tap the right num lk key and you just turned off the numbers lock.

There is another option that is a little more intense - if interested let me know that laptop type you have.

My friends Gateway ma8's keyboard and mousepad is not working. She has windows vista and I've tried reinstalling the drivers the system found...

If your keyboard cable has become disconnected, your mouse and external keyboard/mouse devices may now work either. Some of these laptops have an issue with the ribbon cable fraying after some time. This can cause the device to stop working, and cause numerous other issues down the road. Hope this helps.

Logitech MX 3200 wireless keyboard Numeric (right side) keypad does not work.

maybe it is full of dust on those buttons. Try cleaning it with a duster of mini-brush because it interrupts the function.
