Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook
When I turn my computer on, a screen comes up that says Windows did not start successfully. Towards the bottom it gives me options of starting in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Good Configuration and Start Windows Normally. None of these options work.
You are having a bios problem you need to look at your owners manual and see what key you have to hit during startup to enter bios, some you push delete, some F!, some F8, but push the appropiate key then use the motherboard manual to check the settings of your bios, all these should have come with your machine new. if bios is configured correctly and it still dont boot while in bios disable your CPU internal cache, make sure your HDD S.M.A.R.T. is enabled, and make sure that your hard drive is listed as detected in intergrated periphals , if its name and size isnt listed select detect and hit enter if it dont detect your hard drive could be bad or another problem if it does then you sre ready to use the system to trouble shoot itself. just follow the directions on the screen.

You may be able to save it with a "repair install" of your operating system.
Don't know if the Dell recovery discs allow this or not.
Before you do that though, find someone who can remove your drive a save all the DATA off of it that you might want to save.
If you have a little bit of mechanical abilty, you can by a USB to IDE adapter to plug the removed drive into a USB port on another computer and save your DATA before starting any recovery operations. these adapters can be had for under $20.
If you don't have anthing on the computer you want to save, then just insert your recovery disc and go for it.
