If this cartridge is from their monthly print program you will not be able to refill it and taking it out and replacing it in the same printer can also through an error code.
2) Have you tried turning off the printer, unplugging it "FROM THE WALL" for three minutes and replugging it back in and turning it back on?
3) If one or the other cartridges have electronic problems, it will not print.
4)If an update was done on your printer software? Sometimes this will not allow you to use anything but HP. However, sometimes if you use an genuine HP and then go back to the refill it will reset it and work again.

Regarding your recent inquiry about the Epson T071 ink cartridge error message ("Ink Light is red", "Cartridge Not Recognized", "Replace Cartridge", "Installed ink cartridge is expended." or similar cartridge/printer alert message) associated with your Epson SX200 printer, the cartridge probably has a mis-programmed smart chip...
NOTE: If you had the cartridge refilled, the cartridge chip must be reset. Re-programming, which typically yields a green light to show success, it does not always result in correct smart chip reprogramming. It is also possible they may have forgotten to re-program the ink cartridge. If a compatible/clone cartridge, it could be a reprogramming issue or defective chip (which is common). Or, such a failure could be an electrical failure of the ink cartridge itself*. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do from home....the chip(s) need to be re-programmed (at refiller) or replaced with a new cartridge from vendor.
*OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES OF FAILURE:
Either the external chip or internal ink sensor is electrically bad (the internal ink sensor detects if cartridge is really out of ink). If you return the cartridge to your retail refiller and they re-program the cartridge(s) a 2nd time but the "replace cartridge" message, or similar blocking message persists, then this is the likely cause and the cartridge will need to be replaced with a new one.
1) Confirm if this is just a nuisance/annoyance alert (i.e. "non-genuine" cartridge ) vs. an actual 'unrecognized cartridge' alert (i.e. Red X's on printer display / Windows pop-up message). 2) On some Epson printer models you may need to scroll thru the menu options AT THE PRINTER'S CONTROL MENU (i.e. right arrow key) to help determine which specific ink cartridge is actually causing the 'Unrecognized Cartridge' error condition. 3) We suggest you remove all the ink cartridges, inspect the smart-chips condition (on rear side) and ensure there are no cuts/gashes or ink residue present on the micro-chip surfaces. CAUTION: Be advised, the use of compatible/clone cartridges (i.e. sold thru the internet from overseas) are known to be problematic and may cause printer errors or permanent PRINTHEAD damage (especially for 3rd party inks which contain volatile organic compounds or VOCs). NOTE 3: If, after replacing the cartridge(s), with brand new Epson Original ink cartridge(s), is the only solution which corrects the problem, then you likely have a defective cartridge (internal ink level monitoring circuit), unrelated to the refilled cartridges. Nozzle cleaning uses a lot of ink, that's probably why the other ink cartridges are registering low on ink. Are you using refilled cartridges or brand new? Also, have you had the cartridges for awhile? I've found that the nozzles can become clogged either from not using the printer for awhile or because it's a recycled cartridge that didn't have the nozzles cleaned before it was refilled. When that happens, unfortunately, sometimes it takes a lot of cleaning cycles before the printing comes back. Let me know more about the cartridges you have.
The chip on the cartridge tells the printer how much ink is left in the cartridge. If the chip says the cartridge is empty, it won't print no matter how much ink is left. That said I think you got refills that didn't get the chips reset or compatibles (non-Epson brand cartridge body) with poorly made chips that expired before they should have. You need to have all the cartridges installed with functioning chips to use your printer. You need to buy new cartridges of the ones your printer thinks are empty. I recommend Cartridge World for refills because they make a quality product that doesn't have these kind of "novice" refiller problems. I would never buy refills or compatibles off the internet because you get what you pay for.
I have an Epson color printer ,but not the same model. If any of the colors of ink or out it will not allow one to print anything until the cartrage is replaced. It is built that way to stop the ink for totally running out . I just read this in this months comsumers reports magizine. Sorry.
