Issue trying to upload movies from my camcorder to Pinnacle Studio

I just purchased Pinnacle Studio and I'm trying to upload my movies onto my computer. Studio can't detect my JVC GR-DVL522 camcorder because the driver isn't uploaded. The disk that came with the camera only uploads in Win ME, Windows 2000 etc. and not Windows XP. I looked at JVC's website but couldn't find a driver to download. Any ideas? Thanks.

SOURCE: Upload video

The USB on your camcorder is for downloading still pictures only. If you want to transfer video to your computer you need to hook up a firewire cable, which is to the right of the USB connection. Firewire is also known as 1394 connection.

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: uploading issues from JVC mini GR-D770U

As I understand it your computer needs either a firewire port or a 4 or 6 pin DV port depending on what type of connector is on the computer end of the DV cable you purchased.

SOURCE: How do you get the JVC GR HD1 to upload in hd on a

This can be done through the fire wire port (mini firewire400 on the cam to what ever firewire size port is on your computer) to and any video editing software that can handle HD codecs. Inside the editing software there will be a way to import video from a camera. This part of the program will control the start and stop of the camera via the firewire (ie you do not push buttons on the camera). It will start the tape and record into the PC. You can choose to compress the video to a bunch of different formats to make it more manageable. The owners manual spells it out pretty good. If you can't find it let me know and I might still have a web link to one.

To transfer video from this camcorder to a PC, you need a 1394 cable (also called a "Firewire" cable, and your PC must have a 1394/Firewire connector as well. You can use Movie Maker (which comes with Windows) as the capture software, or you can download Scenalyzer (shareware), Studio (from Pinnacle), or Vegas Movie Studio to do the capture.

Windows Movie Maker has a few features that are missing for it to complete the job, In fact Microsoft no longer supports the product. This is why it's not included in Vista. Nero makes software to do it as well as Pinnacle. I use Studio and it will walk you through the capture process, edit, menu creation, and burning to DVD.

Uploalding vidio

You need a USB of Firecable depending on what interface you have on your camcorder. Then you need a capture program such as Pinnacle Studio to bring the video in. Windows Movie Maker isn't compatible with USB or Firewire cameras.

Windows Movie Maker is pretty limited. I think Microsoft gave up on software like that. Especially since it creates files in version 8 format. I think there up to 11 these days.

Pinnacle Studio is a good program to use. I have used it professionally for over 5 years now and have produced 100s of videos and DVDs with it covering everything from You Tube videos up to a wedding I shot for a client this last weekend.

Once you connect your camera to it and turn it on, it gives you the option to start it up.

Transfer footage from DVD to Computer for editing

I use ISO Buster to read the AVCHD footage into my computer and then edit with Pinnacle Studio. With ISO Buster, you place the 3" AVCHD DVD into your regular DVD Rom drive on your computer and it will rip the raw files directly from the disk. You cannot transfer the movies from the DX1 to Pinnacle or any other editor using the USB cable.

Camera not recognized

Chances are, it's a driver issue. It isn't uncommon for a new OS to "break connectivity" with a camcorder. It usually takes a few months for new drivers to be written. So I'd check with Sony for Vista drivers.
