Question about Sony DAV-BC150 System

1 Answer

Speakers Crackling and system keeps going to standby.

I have a dav-bc150 sony home theatre system. Its 3-4 years old, we won it in a contest. It was brand new but I am unsure of the purchase date.

Recently it just shut off on us and started flashing standby, until it was unplugged and plugged back in. Also we have a crackling sound in all of the speakers, most of the time. Usually after the system has been on for a while. I have check each speaker individually and have determined it to be a system problem and not a speaker problem. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to fix this, or where to go for help.

I called sony and they had me reset the system by holding down

fast forward, play and disc 1 eject

did that still crackled a bit did it a couple more times, has now been about 5 hours no noise yet. May have been a combination of the reset and the compressed air cleaning.

Thanks for the help will repost if problem starts again

Just got my system back from the repair shop. I did not get it fixed. He told me it was the amp, and would be $245.90 for the part and $45 for labor. I can get the system new for $299, so not worth fixing it. I found the part on the sony parts catalog site for a lot less. A4752734A
MOUNTED C BOARD (B), AMP $153.80. Here is the site
I plan on calling sony and questioning them on why a authorized sony repair shop is charging almost double for a part they sell from there site.

Anyways I advise all who are having this same problem to call sony and complain because they say there are no complaints on this model. I have found a number of issues with this model, on the internet and a lot that are having the same issues as I am.

Oh ya and Don't goto Home Electronics in Owen Sound Ontario if he is going to rip people off like that

Same problem crackles and goes into standby mode ...I have had it work for me on and off for the past 4 years I have had it. SAME PROBLEM...Started I think only months after I purchased it.

My unit has the same problem, static or goes into standby. If unplugged and re-plugged, it will work again for a while. The static usually doesn't start until the unit has been on for one to two hours. This suggests it may be related to heat buildup.

It sounds like you may have a problem with the sound pc board. If the system shuts down or goes into a stand by mode, then it means the system is detecting an internal problem and is shutting itself down to avoid any further damage. You may need to have it serviced but that could be a little expensive. You can always buy a used replacement receiver if the speakers and sub is still working good.
Hope that helps.

Sounds like your TV's sound output isn't working. Check all the connections and if that doesn't do it, try hooking up some other sound system to the TV to check that it is working properly.

My speakers have almost constant crackling noises

Hello, there is no chance that you can fix this problem by replacing speaker wires. Resoldering the output stages as well as area around the microprocesor could be the efficient solution. If you need more info please advice.
