Question about i-mate JAM Pocket PC

1 Answer

How does one know when the battery on a PDA is too old? What are signs beyond the battery meter?

Hi experts,

What are the signs that a battery may need replacing. Let's assume the battery is the standard Li battery for an imate Jam. Let's also assume the battery meter shows a full charge and the battery powers down from full to 75% / 80 % under normal or busy phone usage within an hour of phone talk time.

What kinds of things would I see in the unit that would let me first replace a battery, correctly, before requesting more costly service?

i.e. Phone disconnects when battery says 80% (or is this a lose back cover?).

i.e. Unit soft resets itself at strange times.

Let me know. I'm curious with batterys and cellphones in general but especially with the JAM as I'm a big fan and about ready to get an HTC touch.

The battery charger is flashing red but doesn't seem to charge. What could be wrong?

This is usually a sign that that the battery is beyond charging. Test the charger and battery voltages with a meter if possible, but chances are that you need a new battery.

Hello LyMaBa

Do you have an SD card inserted in the PDA?

If so remove it and restart your PDA.

Did the problem go away. If so, please, go HERE for the Zire 71 Expansion update or HERE for the SD/SDIO update.

You can find all the manuals for the Palm Zire 71 PDA HERE.

If you don't have a SD card inserted, you might want to try performing a WARM RESET of your PDA. Youtube has a video on this process HERE.

You can find instructions HERE for performing a reset ("warm" or "hard") on your Palm PDA.

You can find other software, info, downloads, etc.
HERE for your Zire 71.

If performing a "warm" reset doesn't work, try performing a "hard" reset.

*** WARNING!!! ***
YOU WILL loose ALL of your data on the PDA by performing a "hard" reset so make sure it's data has been synchronized w/ your computer software (Palm Desktop, Microsoft Outlook, etc).

HP Ipaq H4355 PDA charging problem

Use common sense and frequently charge the battery even when the device is not used.
Draining a battery fully often kills it permanently.

SLR light meter

Hmmm well its getting power.... surely the lens is on correctly. Since the camera seems to be working, one option is to get a hand-held light meter.
