Question about Brother MFC-640CW All-In-One InkJet Printer

Replaced the printhead, now I have an Error 50

I found a broken MFC-640CW and swapped printheads with my bad one. Now I have an Error 50. What's that?
Also, I didn't have a new waste ink absorber so I tried to flush my old one out with water for about 20 mins. The printer still wants a new one. Where do I buy one?

Thanks. Fixed the Error 50 problem with your advice, reset the PURGE setting, and it's working with it's new printhead. Still haven't located a waste tank absorber, but I'll call around after the holidays. Yee haa!

Error 50: encoder strip (foil paralell to ph traveling path) is out of the ph sensor. You have to push the ph to the very left, open ph cover and reinsert the ph so that the foil is in place within the ph. check by pushing it left /right: the foil must run plain without a wave infront ph.

Buy a new waist ink tank as a spare part from a service partner near your home who can be found at the brother homepage of your country.
NEVER CLEAN A WAIST INK TANK! The cotton will be as stone after it dried up and refuses to take up waistink. Ink will destroy the inside of the machine (and furniture beneath the printer).

You have to do a reset within the eeprom. When you ve bought the new ink absorber plz post here again. Will give you the code then.

Brother MFC-465CN printer Error code 51 unable to print

Usually this is caused by a foreign object or debris under the printhead path, or under where the printhead "parks."

Unplug the machine. Open the cover. Check the printhead path for little bits of paper, push pins, paperclips, staples etc. Note the location of the printhead.

If the printhead is at the far left, gently slide it towards the center (do not force it). Look carefully under where the printhead was stopped for debris. Use a flashlight if necessary.

Close the cover. Plug in the unit. Try again.

Clean brother encoder strip

The encoder strip is barely visible thru the top in front of the printhead, if you can see it without taking all apart, you use a Q-tip just damp with water and wipe each side as far as you can reach.

Screen says unable to init and cannot find guide.

press menu then start bk copy then 4 times arrow up. Lights will flash and machine turns to maintenance mode. In case you cant see an 2 digit error code press start bk copy again.

If the error code starts with 4 the printhead is defective and needs replacement.

If you have another code displayed search code here at fixya. Most of them are explained a thousand of times...

To leave the maintenance mode press 9 then 9.

How to replace the printhead? Or should I?

Firstly, yes the cheap ink has KILLED your ph! The missing of some important additives in the ink get you there. Saty away from generic ink carts!!!! Do refill the original brother ones with a reliable and good DYE ink.

To get it clear what error code does the eBay one give to you after pressing menu then start bk copy then 4x arrow-up?

Plz post it here. (might save our both time and energy).
