Question about Bose Lifestyle 30 System

1 Answer

Missing segments on the display

I have a Bose Lifestyle 30 Series II audio system. The LCD display is starting to lose some of the segments. Furthermore, the entire display seems a bit dimmer compared to when it was new. I am not yet a Bose basher, but I must agree that they are overpriced and would probably not buy another one. I have too much invested to at least not try to fix it.

Thanks for considering.

LCD dispaly is standard,
the brightness is controlled on the display control baord mounted on the board that the dispaly cable plugs into, the gain of an op amp that controls the brigtness of the diplay is loacted on this board , check also the potentiometer located close to the connector and adjust that, but a quick visit to radio shack will get you a couple of cents worth of parts and a few mintes of delicate soldering and a couple of hours of dissasembly , tracing and reaasembly. with a risk of doing further damage.
equally likely to a faulty power op amp or potentiometer is that the dispaly is expiring ( it happens sometimes to these types of plasma displays.....)

so if you are determined not to get a cheap relapcement cd 20 and are determined to open the beast. get a cheap broken cd20 unit and take the dispaly out of that one and replace it with your display ( by display i specifically mean the intergarted circuit tht the plasma screen is mounted to, and subsequentially screwed into the inside face of the cd 20 unit behind that bit of smoked glass,
which of course you are going to open and clean before you put it all back together gain.
have fun ;-)

This comment is completely false. There is no adjustment for for making display brighter on PCB board. You'll ruin your system listening to this guy.

Had the same problem. The electrolytic capacitors on the power board were not well - I tested a few of them and ESR values were all high. One of my 100uF caps was open circuit and not charging. I replaced all caps on the power board and display is fine again. Hope this helps.

Hooking up a Bose Lifestyle 30 II to an optical audio output

Actually, you can do this. Just get an optical to RCA converter.
This looks like a good one: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-40019-Optical-Converter/dp/B0002GV876/ref=pd_cp_e_2

Not good surround sound Is the bose lifestyle 5 support 5.1 surround sound?

The Bose Lifestyle 5 is not a 5.1 surround sound system. It is a 2.1 sound system, meaning it is stereo with a subwoofer/bass unit. Having two speakers that can be angled in different directions, the Bose Lifestyle 5 employs Bose direct/reflecting technology, providing greater audio presence. Still, it is definitely not a surround sound system.

I have a Bose Lifestyle 35 Series II and want to know whether it's compatible with a DVD+RW. I'll burn it in a Toshiba recorder, finalize it and then play it on the Bose. Will it play?

Hi This what Bose say about formats

"The Lifestyle® 35 system plays DVD-video in interlaced format, as well as music on CD, CD-R (recordable) and CD-RW (re-writable). The system also plays MP3 files on CD and AM/FM radio. "

So by the sound of this i suspec that you may struggle with DVD/RW. but my best advice is try it.

No display and Thump and static from bass

The poor display is a known problem.. see my other posts for the cure. As for the thump..a slight one isn't uncommon... but static?- you mean crackling? from the cubes? all of them? unplug the audio leads from the head unit to the bass and see if it stops..then you can narrow it down a bit.

How to conect iPod to Bose Lifestyle 12 Series II System

I connected my iPod with the same Bose with a cable you can get from Radio Shack for under $10.00. Please forgive me for not knowing the technical terms but one end has the male red and white plugs (audio composite)while the other is a single malplug that goes into your iPod. Just pick an open spot to plug it into the back of the Bose (Tape, Aux, Video) adn you are on your way.

http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kw=ipod+cables&f=Taxonomy%2FRSK%2F2032058&categoryId=2032058&kwCatId=2032058

Found the link to the radio Shck site and the cables.

Hope This Helps.
