My Gateway FPD2275W LCD monitor has suddenly failed. It looks like dark liquid has leaked inside the left 3 in. and a series of horizontal black lines appeared at the same time. Evidently the LCD panel has failed. Is it possible to have the LCD pannel replaced withouut having to buy a new monitor? Thanks, ****
It sounds like you cracked your screen. Most likely it fell or was hit on the left side.
Most LCD panels are standard, so you certainly can replace the panel itself. You'd simply have to get your hands on a working 22" LCD panel (either from a used monitor or TV or just by itself). I would check out ebay. Any monitor with a good working and undamaged LCD panel should be fine, even if the monitor it comes with doesn't work. Try to stick with monitors also, as some TVs have proprietary panels and in general are more expensive. Search for as is or broken 22" LCD monitors, then look for one that seems to have a good panel. Keep in mind though, that 22" LCD panels are not particularly cheap. Expect to pay between $40-$100 for it.
Trying to find replacement parts for your model could be a task. LCDs are so inexpensive these days it would be cheaper to just replace it. Not sure if you have a Frys computer store nearby but I saw a 22" LCD for 129.00. Check your local electronics stores also. If you did find the part for your Gateway consider the cost and installation fees.
