Question about Durabrand DVD-1002 DVD Player

1 Answer

DVD doesn't spin

The spinning mechanism on this DVD player stopped working last night. But I don't see any issues save for the piece that holds the DVD's seems different. I can't really describe how, except for the small circular piece on the very top of it seems scratchy, but I didn't pay enough attention to it before so I don't know weather or not it's actually any different than it was before.

Re: DVD doesn't spin

The spindle motor could be burned out. If so, it's not worth repairing unless you could find on ebay an equivalent unit and change the part yourself.

The disc starts to spin then stops?

If the player is not able to spin the disk up to full speed in X amount of time the default is to shut down.
So most likely you need a new player.
But first try unplugging the power to the player for one minute to reset it then plug it back in. & give it a try.
next it might be getting to hot maybe dust buildup at vents or placed on top or too close to something that makes heat.
Again unplug & let it get to room temp maybe over night then try it again.
Lastly you could try a lens cleaning disk. Maybe the lens can't read the disk & this is causing it to stop trying & stop spinning. This is a long shot as if it's a read fault it should display that message.

Doesn't load the disk

Someone needs to open it to SEE what is happening--if the unit holds more than one disc (model seems to indicate that) you likely have a mechanism problem with something jammed or even broken--mechanism could also be out of alignment which is a task for a pro.

Look and see what is happening is first thing needed here.

I have a Sony DVP-NS57P DVD player, The disc doesn't spin unless I give it a light touch; then it spins, reads and plays fine. If I stop it, eject it and reload it, the same thing happens again and I...

Problem seems with spindle motor that needs little bit lubrication of WD40 contact cleaner spray.
Let me know if you are willing to take apart dvd player and have WD40 spray.

When loading a dvd it displays, "NO DISK". Is it

There are mainly three motors for most of the DVD players. One to spin the disc we insert in, other to load the laser pickup unit to-and-fro inside it to read the disc and an other one to load the tray mechanism 'in-out'. According to your description, the disc spins inside, and you can hear its spin. So motor which spins the disc has no trouble at all I should say. Then comes to the second motor that moves the laser assembly inside it. If it do not work, the laser pickup unit won't move and no reading will take place and 'No Disc' display will be the result. The last chance is with Laser Pickup Unit itself. Just get this unit repaired by any well experienced service technician or by the authorised service center, because, there are special tools to open this unit. As it is a compactable one, more care should be given to it while repairing. Suspect the second motor I described earlier, and the Laser Pickup Unit. OK.

Open & close disc doesn't work. It is open not but I can't close it. Looks like both open and close don't work.

There are three possibilities for this trouble with this DVD player. The first one is imprper loading function due to loading motor or loading belt trouble. If loading motor is weak [that is its pulling power has gone low] the tray will not close properly into the mechanism, and will not touch the load sensor switch fitted inside the mechanism. If this happens, the main system control IC will detect improper loading and will turn the tray out again to load it properly. Just try to close it without a disc inside the tray, and check whether it closes well. If it does so, or the trouble repeats, change the loading belt first. In most cases, this will retify this type of trouble.
The second one is, bad 'Sled' motor. sled motor is one, which spins the disc inside the mechanism. After proper loading, if the disc do not spin inside it, again the system control IC will sense it, and will eject the tray. The sled motor also is a replacable part.
The third one is, damaged gear wheel in the loading gear section. to detect and repair any of above trouble, you have to open your DVD player, and take the DVD mechanism out of it, and is somewhat semi-skilled work indeed. Check these first. If you want anymore assistance from me, feel free to get be by fixya. If you are somewhat skilled, and have confidence and can follow the diagrams, send your email address to me by FixYa. I'll send the service manual of your DVD player by return mail. All details and disassemblng procedure are in it. OK

I load the CD put I don't hear it spinning at all

No it isn't, because your switch isn't tripping when you close the DVD. Try holding the lid down with your hand and listen for spin. If your DVD starts spinning you will need to locate the plastic pin protruding from your lid and extend it with superglue and a piece of cardboard. This will make up for the warp in your lid, and allow the switch to close.

Wont spin

cdfreeze, DVD drives spin up the platter and attempt to read from it. If the read fails, they stop spinning the drive. So, I think the problem you have is that the device won't read. DVD drives have some very small plastic pieces that can break and cause failure. They also have a read head that can get out of alignment. If you're ambitious, look at the drive and see if you can find any other damage. Don't run the drive open, though, because there is invisible laser that can blind you (there should have been a warning on the top of the drive when you opened it). I checked eBay and this DVD player sells for under $20 (including shipping), so don't spend too much time on it. Definitely let me know if you have questions or comments.
