Question about Samsung HLP4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Samsung HDLP 46

I have the above mentioned product and after 3 years, it just stopped working. It won't turn on. I have replaced the lamp and it still will not turn on. I've called Samsung and unfortunately for me, there is no authorized repairman in our town. I was hoping someone could take a guess as to what could be the problem and what these types of problems cost before I call an out-of-town repairman to come in.

Thanks for your help,

Tara

The lamp is not always the problem. You probably won't hurt to invest in a DMD board part # BP96-00678D. It unpluggs and plugs back with new one. Just be sure to match the plugs. First just reseating the plugs (taking loose and putting back) will sometimes fix. and be sure you put the back on properly where you put the lamp in. Ballast or Color wheel could be problem but not as likely. Hope this helps

My Samsung 46in DLP turns on but within a few minutes it truns off and the timer, lamp and red stand by/ temp lights blink. Any Ideas?

The blinking lights usually indicate that the lamp is faulty or burnt out. In this case a new lamp would be required. The lamp in your projector set should last around 3-4 years of typical use. If your lamp is at the end of it's life you may have noticed a gradual reduction in brightness over the last few months. In this case if it's still in warranty contact Samsung to arrange for a replacement lamp.
Occasionally the lamp may not come on even when it is not burnt out. You could try turning the power off for 60 seconds on the back of the set. The other possibility is that the lamp is loose. Refer to your manual on replacing the lamp and follow the instructions removing the lamp and then put it back into place. If neither of these work you will need to get a new lamp.

My Samsung HLP4663W 46 in was making a buzzing noise for several months. I know it could have been either the fan(s) or the color wheel, but I never opened it up to determine which it was. Now the TV quit...

Great reasoning work! In fact, the lamp will not light if the color wheel does not spin-up. Fans will not stop the process of lamp ignition. Instead, a fan will be detected and a message will appear on the screen telling which fan has stopped. You need to have the color wheel replaced.

Lamp will not ignite

Two possible causes. First. The Color Wheel is going bad. Second. The Digital bd is going bad. Color Wheel part# is BP96-96-00674a and the Digital bd is a BP94-02065a.

TV on/off

How long is your TV on before it turns off? Check the fans and make sure they are all working. The TV may be shutting off due to overheating if a fan quit working.

If you think the lamp is still good maybe try replacing the lamp ballast.

I have a solution for The United States of America! "If We Don't Make It, We Don't Need It".

Personally, I believe if we went back to actually manufacturing things in this country and stopped importing everything, a lot of these problems would STOP!

Turning On Problem

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and
3 LEDs in the front blinking.

Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in.

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.

The Problem you have with your set is that your lamp is dead. you will need replace it. The Part number for the lamp is on the side of the TV. BP96-00826A is the part number. You will need a service Person to change the Hour timer in the service Menu.
