Re: cannon

Unfortunately Canon are refusing the GROWING number of problems with the S2is. It's not the same as the S1is problem. My S2is has just started doing the same thing (24 months old) and having researched it appears that it's a very common failure of the camera - the iris seizes and doesn't open. Setting the camera to AV mode, 15 sec exposure, firing the shutter and then opening the battery cover sometimes solves it, albeit temporarily. The S1is had a recall based on the CCD failure, but so far Canon have refused to do anything with the S2is. I contacted them last week in the UK, and the response was "tough"! I'm very p***ed off with them - it cost me £400. Hoping that eventually it will be recalled and I'll get it fixed.

Re: cannon

Go to the canon web site they have an advisory out on this I just got mine back actually they kept my S1 IS and sent me a new S5 IS because "they did not have the part and wanted to expedite my repair"

Here is another site I found when I encountered my problem

I sent my camera in per Canons instructions, received an e-mail a few days later(1/9/08) confirming that they would repair it a few more days later (1/16/08)I received another e-mail confirming that it had been repaired and shipped. Today (1/17/08) I got it and to my very pleasant surprise the box contained a new S5 IS!!! I will be sending them a very nice THANK YOU for it after I post this.

PS: e-mail accepting repair 1/9/08
1/16/08 e-mail stating it shipped on 1/15/08,
received 1/17/08 via FED EX

Cannon powershot A85. I turn on the camera and the screen just shows the menu or the settings. when I snap picture, it shows nothing. i cannot replay the pictures either. what could be wrong?

It is known problem of ccd imager chip failure in Canon A85 camera and ccd imager chip will be replaced by local camera repair shop to solve this issue.
Since camera wont show live view/ blank screen so same gets saved as picture in memory card that is why no picture/ image in playback either.
Hope these info will help you.

Cannon PowerShot S2 IS lens is stuck

I have the exact same problem, took it completely apart removed the zoom motor, physically turned the zoom gear and retracted the lens, reinstalled the motor, put it all back together, and found that I had the same problem and the lens wouldn't move out, so im pretty certain that the motor is bad, as the lens moves smoothly once the motor is not attached to it... looking for a replacement motor as i type...

Canon powershot s21s problem

I had what Canon suggested was a ccd image sensor problem with my S2 IS, did as they suggested, filled out their form, printed it out, talked to a rep about the problem, sent the camera in to their service repair, only to hear from them that their solution was to let them repair it for $127.00, or purchase a, get this now a "refurbished" newer model S3 IS for $175.00 with a 30 or 90 day warranty on it..HAHAHAHA...why on earth would anyone add an extra expense to what the camera's value was at purchase in my case the cost for the camera was $349.00, or buy the next step up from and S2 to an S3 IS, that has already been refurbished for whatever reasons for $175.00...and hope that this camera screwed up before the limited warranty expired..and by the way I had only had my S2 IS for 18 mos.
In my opinion Canon needs a class action law suit filed against them for not honoring a product that has a history with the image sensor, refering to the S1 IS...and now already wanting to replace an S2 with a refurbished S3...DON'T THINK SO..

Lense cover keeps falling off

The spring must have grown tired, or displaced. If you don?t want to loose it in the meantime, you can glue a string one side to the cover and one side to the camera?s body using small points of super glue. But a more creative solution would be to get to a cannon selling shop and nag them to help you get a new one, or go to a second hand shop and look for a standard cover that?s a good fit for your lense.
